PEACE MESSAGE
Raja Jerry Kanagarajah,
I take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Raja Jerry Remigius
Kanagarajah a Direct Descendant of the Jaffna Royal Family. Although
the Soveriegnity was ended on the 11th February 1621, there are still
existing Descendants of the Jaffna Royal Family.
Even if I live in a country which is not of my birth right, I am very
aware of the situation in Sri Lanka. I keep myself up to date on news
and daily happenings in my country. Although I am not a political person,
it does concern me however that there has been so little progress in
recent peace talks, thus despite of the helpful international support.
I would like to take the occassion of my 40th birthday to pass on this
message: That the peace process should go further! It is my only wish
that as citizens of Sri Lanka we join hands, Look into the History of
our country and the lives of our forefathers who lived in peace and
unity.
It is unfortunate that for over 20 years we have not had this peace.
Although some things have improved over the last few years, it is an
obligation that we express with stregnth our common will to live in
a peaceful and prosperous country; something that is achievable.
It is also a unique occassion for our nation to be a world model, especially
in times of critical political situation in the world. To achieve peace
and unity in our country, the only way is that we, ( without considering
our ethnic, social or political membership) join together to put behind
our differences and concentrate on what we have in common past, present
and future, then we will be able to progressively build a national identity
that both respects our ancestors and is a guarantee of stability for
our descendants.
It is not my intention to take a big stand in the political arena of
the country. But as a descendant of the Jaffna Royal Family, I support
all efforts made by the leaders of political and ethnic groups in the
country to make Sri Lanka a peace loving and unified country.
I wish all the people of Sri Lanka and around the world peace. I hope
with the support of the other countries of the world. to see Sri Lanka
rise above its cultural and ethnic differences.
