Suicidal Attempt by Patriotic Section of
the Sri Lankan Society-Candidacy at elections
How fatal is the decision of the Mahasangha
to contest elections in Sri Lanka. An Appeal to the Patriotic sections.

As true and sincere patriotic citizens and dedicated sons of Mother
Lanka, no words can describe how much grieved we are to hear the news
about the decision of the Jathika Sangha Sammelanaya towards whose
wellbeing we also have contributed even in a small way and continue
to be a benefactor. We decided to write these few words to see whether
even at this late stage we will be able to convince the leadership
to see the reality and do the wisest thing in the good name of the
Nation, Dispensation, Custodians of both the Dispensation and the
Nation, namely the Maha Sangha of our beloved motherland.
Politics no doubt is not a taboo for our Mahasangha, but that is the
pure form of advising in the ruling of a Nation that had been accustomed
to our Priests. What we find in the name of politics today in the
country is something so dirty that a sincere Buddhist monk must not
even think of mingling with it. All that they can do without been
defiled themselves is to lead the laity to engage in a pure form of
politics to save the country. But in the name or pretext of saving
the country they must not try to jump into the precipice of no return.
Can we possibly find Theraputthabayas now.
Secondly we must ascertain properly the need of the day. Our mother
country is been partitioned according to the whims and fancies of
certain dastardly individuals who have no concern for their country
and people. So the foremost requirement would be to save the country
from them. In this struggle we must not hesitate to join hands with
even the demons so long as we know that they are demons but not as
bad as the devils. In that context any sensible person with an atom
of brain would never hesitate at the present to make people understand
that UNP+LTTE combination backed by a whole heap of foreign NGOO is
the real threat for us and therefore must join hands to driver away
them first and then either fight or work together towards our goals.
Instead to contest separately , that too putting forward the Buddhist
monks would be most suicidal and this is exactly what LTTE and Foreign
funded Fundamentalists want to see happening in order to reverse the
tides created after the demise of Ven Soma thero.
The people in SL are so divided politically that they are still not
in a frame of mind to think of a third force to defeat the 2 major
parties. Hence the Buddhist priests will receive a humiliating defeat.
Then what happens?. LTTE/Fundamentalists will tell the world look
these monks are rejected by the people. That is why we are being invited
by them to preach them the gospel and hence we are not forcing ourselve
into SL but been invited into the country. Is this what we want to
tell the world.
People themselves will start hating the Buddhist priests even more
vociferously than after Bandaranayake assassination and they will
strongly believe that even after Ven Soma theor's demise our Priests
have not learnt a lesson and are falling prey to the Anti-Buddhist
forces. So the Buddhist priests will loose all the recognition they
enjoyed even under the colonial and semi colonial regimesand that
means their credentials.
This is no doubt an act engineered and a plot hatched by the anti-Sinhala
and anti-Buddhist forces by deceiving few power hungry individuals
and forced the wrong decision on the throats of all the other innocent
priests as well who through fear of creating dissensions among the
Sangha had agreed very unwillingly. Remember that this is the most
crucial moment for anti-national forces and hence they would go to
any length to create rifts among the national minded people so that
it would make the battle easy for UNP+LTTE and other forces who back
them.
We hope we need no self introductions to our nationalist forces in
SL. We have been much instrumental in launching Movements like the
JSS and hard been in the forefront of Sihala Urumaya which we still
believe to be the only way out for the Sinhala Buddhist nation. But
no sooner we came to know about this latest decision we could not
believe ourselves. As we see it. it is a Trick played by the anti-national
forces through their agents planted inside, the very light hearted
and post modernist elements having a big say, [one would be surprised
to believe] on matters very crucial to the affairs of these Insttutions
of the patriotic people . Hence we are compelled by the force of the
numerous requests coming from SL from many who came into SU folds
under our guidance in addition to our own strong conviction to make
this appeal to all those who are concerned to think again and think
several times more before committing this national calamity by forcing
the limited number of very patriotic Buddhist priests to contest elections.
Rather they might do better by making a public statement advising
the people to do away with the worst enemy first and then rally round
the next best to demand to do what should be done. Make the next best
lot know that it is through their intervention that they get the resounding
victory and hence if they do not adhere to what the patriots say that
they would lead the public to protest agiainst them and then take
by force the power to run the country way the people want. This will
convince people that we are not power hungry but much concerned about
the country, nation and the dispensation. In actual fact that is all
that we must be bothered about.
It is still not too late to arrive at the correct and wise decision
useful and fruitful to the people and the Nation and hence the Dispesation.
Then Mahasangha will be spared of the disgrace and will be there to
lead us, we will be happy to get their advice and blessings and no
outside force will ever be able to dominate and undermine us.
