ELECTION MANIFESTO MUST BE FOR UNIFICATION NOT DIVISION OF SRI LANKA.Prof. Hudson McLeanIn our considered opinion, the Sri Lankan electorate has a final chance to decide whether the lovely Island Nation should be carved up by terrorist demands into several entities, or maintained as a single Sovereign State. This election will give an opportunity to demonstrate to the free World that unlawful terrorism and its cohorts, both foreign and domestic, have neither the time nor place in a civilised democracy. The entry of the Buddhist clergy into frontline politics is a blunder of massive proportions. This will only tear the fragile Buddhist-Christian relationship within the Sinhala element. Most likely, this element was beautifully structured and engineered by the Liberation Tiger Terrorists of Tamil Eelam (LTTTE) in cooperation with the RanilWm government agents, not only as a Vote Divider but mainly as a Tension Creator. LTTTE may capitalize on any civil unrest between the Sinhala Christians and Sinhala Buddhists to demonstrate to the world, the mentality within the Sinhala population, to further promote their demands for an independent Homeland, which the 60 million or so Tamils enjoy in Tamil Nadu, under democratic transparent governance, in India. This election must be a closing chapter to demonstrate the Civility, Harmony and Peace within One Nation under One Umbrella. It must give comfort to all citizens of Sri Lanka, irrespective of their Race, Ethnicity, Creed or Social Status, that Equality within society, will prevail. The following interview with Paul Harris and his 19 answers illustrate very clearly the current status. Quite frankly, I could not have explained that better. Interview with Paul Harris Dec 12 2003
