BUDDHIST MONKS IN POLITICS

I am supporting the Buddhist Monks attempt to contest in the forthcoming General Elections. The reasons are as follows:-

From very early times the Buddhist Monks have been in the forefront during times of war and chaos in the country. They have been in the forefront moving with Kings and Generals to meet head-on the enemy that was determined to undermine the Sovereignity of our Island, to undermine Buddhism and to destroy a Nation. The Monks gave the people of the island encouragement to rise up and face bravely the dark forces. The enemy came in many forms, they were the Dravidians from Southern India, The invasionary forces from Northern India, there have been incursions even from countries to the east of our Island. Then there were the enemy within the island that was hellbent in conniving with foreign forces, simply to take over the Kingdom.

The people of this great island were able to defeat all of this for many thousands of years, only because of the bravery of the Buddhist Monks

Today's events should not be a surprise to the people of Sri Lanka, today also we have leaders that are conniving with the enemy within and the enemy outside to destroy a Nation, a Language, a Religion and mostly a Unitary Sovereign State.

In this hour of need it has to be the Buddhist Monks that have to take the leadership and formulate an initiative to revieve the pride of the inhabitants of Sri Lanka. In times of peace it is the duty of the Buddhist Monks to preach peace and Dhamma.

Therefore I appeal to all patriots to encourage the Monks to give us the encouragement to fight this curse that is ready to pounce on a peaceful nation.
