SET FIRE ON HOMAGAMA CHURCH
IS A BARBARIC ACT
SARATH JAYASIRIWARDENA,
MONTREAL, CANADA
Last sunday Group of barbarians attacked, ransacked , destryed statues
and set fire to the furniture at St.Micheal the Archengel's church in
Katuwana,Homagama.
Government should publicly condemn this attack and take immediate steps
to stop these type of barbaric acts and punish those culprits. These
culprits three times attacked this church since last year and so far
police failed to arrest the attackers.
As a Sri Lankan and a Buddhist I strongly condemned these attacks. Our
government should rebuild the church from the public funds and condemn
these type of acts. In the free world each and every person has the
right to choose their own religion according to their belief. Eventhough
the majority of Sri Lankans are Buddhists, so far we all Buddhists,
Catholics , Muslims and hindus were practicing our religious rights
without any harresments and it should continue the same. We should not
let any religious groups to create a religious war.
Some extremist movement might be behind this attacks and government's
special attention should required to stop this before it spread around
the country. Otherwise Sri Lanka will face international condemnation.
