Shed petty diferences and rally against the UNP-LTTE-NGO Coalition.

A.A.M.NIZAM MATARA.

Just after 2001 General Election there was barrage of criticism and condemnation directed at the Baddegama Samitha Thero by the dutiful scribes of the media barons and the NGO ruffians, saying that he had betrayed the ethics of Buddhism, negated the values of Buddhist preaching by seeking temporal gains, and also devalued the Parliamentary norms by entering Parliament in yellow robes etc. etc. etc. Surprisingly these so-called puritans who were so critical of the Samitha Thero’s election to Parliament, as no one is aware of what they said and done then, and as newborn innocent babes, had ganged up together and have become the vanguards and defenders of the Buddhist monks who had been sponsored as candidates in the forthcoming election.

Shed petty differences and rally against the UNP-LTTE-NGO Coalition. When the innocent worshippers were brutally massacred desecrating the Sri Maha Bodhiya these puritans were non-existent to espouse the clergy on the need at least to protest against these crimes and arouse world opinion against these barbarous acts. They silently approved these crimes.

Similarly they were nowhere when the terrorists bombed the most sacred place of worship for Buddhists, the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

They campaigned for the removal of the ban imposed on the terrorist organisation following this brutal act. At that time they branded the Buddhist monks who protested against the de-proscription as extremists, chauvinists, and war-mongers. They were blind and dumb to the colossal destruction of historical Buddhist heritage sites in the Eastern Province.

They were again highly and ferociously critical of the solidarity of the Buddhist clergy established following the demise (untimely murder) of Ven. Gangodawila Soma Thero. At the time Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobhita Thero started a fast unto death demanding statutes against unethical conversions these so-called puritans condemned him as trying to unleash a religious war

. Surprisingly, within a few weeks time the same prelate and his group had become the real heroes trying to save the nation.

This act itself clearly shows the hypocrisy of the media sycophants and the NGO ruffians whose only objective is to prevent the patriotic forces gaining power.

As already predicted in many opinion polls, including an opinion poll conducted by their darling Reuters News Agency, the signs are clear that all patriotic forces are gathering under the leadership of the Freedom Alliance as this is the most crucial and decisive election in our history.

The only way to prevent a sizeable lead for the Alliance is to split the votes of the Sinhala Buddhists and deny a few bonus seats to the Alliance.

This is an election, contrary to the desire of the NGO ruffians, separatists, pro-federalists, and anti-national elements, will offer the last chance to uphold the unitary status of our nation and defeat all separatists moves and reverse the damage that has been caused to the sovereignty of this nation during the last two years.

The division in the patriotic forces will not only undermine the aspirations of the general masses it would also strengthen the enemy’s potency. It is the opportune time to shed our petty differences for the sake of the country and rally against the UNP-LTTE-NGO Coalition.

It is still not too late for all the patriotic masses to march forward as one grand alliance against the common enemy UNP-LTTE-NGO Coalition. Let us save the country first and then address the other burning issues.
