Ref. to Dr. Peter Gunasekara of National University of Singapore,

Mahinda Karunaratne

Let me make the point that I am not the Donkey to undertake Dog's Job, yet I feel I should comment on his query.

01. This is a question to CBK and her Executive powers to answer if not now, on 02nd April 2004 People of Sri Lanka will decide.

02. As for the comment of JVP Somawansa Amarasingha, regarding their open economic policy, It is quiet simple that even foremost Communist States now adopting a section of Market economy to achieve many goals.

The best example is China, then Vietnam, Cuba follows. Today if you go to China, you will see Mc.Donnels, KFC, Burgherland, Pizza Hut etc. and various other international business houses in every major city, I remember that most of the time there were no seats avaialble in any of these international style restaurants. (I did not go to eat Burghers but to learn about the trend, for that matter I prfer very much a ROTI PRATHA, Curry and Milk Tea in Serangoon road as you may be aware)

No Person or Country can be concrete in it's economic policies in an ever changing world, and further Extreamisms either Comunism or Capitalism wouldn't last long. It is the middle path that is most practical and humane if properly executed eliminating human error factors.

That is why I see that JVP entry to SLFP going to execute it that way as JVP has proven to the country that they are strictly bound to deciplines and principles. (i.e. they do donate their salaty to public services, bring luch from home,)

I have read books in Marxism as well and theory iteself could not be practiced all the time as other factors change all the time. According to Comrade V. I . Lenin, the Communist State of it's full explanation is not yet born. What is Certain is the Uncertainity. So, let the JVP prove it what UNP and SLFP did not do for the ordinary people of this country for over 50 years. Sri Lanka cannot addopt full Capitalism as may be in Singapore, but cannot also go to Extreame Comunalism due to local and international factors. But certainly it has to be a National economy that enhances Agriculture, Local Industry, Indigenous Medicine and many more.

China, Inida and Vietnam today export over 90% than imports and China has the heighest Foreign Reserve in the world while India is second. The countires that adopted SAP in 80'ties imposed by IMF and WB collapsed and the sadest victim is Argentina. Other countries in Asia -Far East quickly realized and chnaged the path if not they would been in the same fate. Today Singapore too does manufaturing and exports, local inventions that accounts to major part of their income.

I hope that JVP will be in line with my view in many other points whereas the Society, Economy and Management concerned. If not we (Sri Lanka) will become another Aregentina in few years. I invite you to read my other articles in the Lankaweb. Should you have any comments, please email me , julius@sinhalaya.com

ELECTION QUERRIES -ONE

Dr. Peter Gunaserkera, National University of Singapore

It is election time and at such times Truth is the biggest casualty. I am a little confused about some issues that have been raised. Can someone answer me?

(1) Some say that Mr Wickremasinghe's government has mismanaged the peace process. In fact some call him a "traitor". Now, CBK has had complete control of Defence , Media etc for nearly 4 months. Why is it that she has not been able to point out any of Ranil's socalled misdeeds? And with all her power, why has she not corrected them?

(2) Somawansa says the JVP is Marxist but he believes in the "mixed economy", according to an interview he has given "Business Today"as reported in the CDN. If he has read any serious Marxist literature he would not support such ideas. How come this contradiction?
