All Ceylon Muslim League vehemently opposes
JM
Press release
"We are a Sovereign and Independent State over every inch of Sri
Lanka. Peace Secretariat Chief Jayantha Dhanapala has stated as reported
in the Daily Mirror of 21st May 2005, "The Government was compelled
to shelve a move to include a clause on human rights in the proposed Joint
Mechanism Draft." We are thankful to Mr. Jayantha Dhanapala for enlightening
us on the perils we, the Citizens of Sri Lanka be he a Muslim, Sinhalese
or a Tamil, will face if this Joint Mechanism is permitted to be carried
out. LTTE has opposed the inclusion of a clause on Human Rights. Even
in their ISGA papers submitted to the Government, in Clause 4, the LTTE
has rejected Human Rights of the Government of Sri Lanka. They have proposed
to set up their own Human Rights Commission. In other words what they
have in view is establishment of Eelam. Ethnic Cleansing seems to be one
item permitted in their Human Rights.
"We are perturbed by the fact that the Norwegian Peace maker Mr.
Solheim has thought fit to present this Joint Mechanism Structure for
consideration by the Government. They seem to play no part in peace
process but only to forward the proposals of the LTTE for Government
consideration.
"Her Excellency has misled the Country, in stating that-the interests
of the Muslims, Sinhalese will be taken into consideration in the proposed
Joint Mechanism. Mr. Jayantha Dhanapala has already disclosed that the
LTTE had been given a big say in that, five out of the ten members in
the Regional Body of the Joint Mechanism for functional purposes. If
five out of the ten members are LTTE cadres what chance, will the Sinhalese
or the Muslims have to get any opportunity to air their views? The All
Ceylon Muslim League condemns the Muslim Congress Conglomeration in
jumping the gun to stake a claim to sit with the LTTE who failed to
date, to settle the Muslims in their homeland and restore their homes
and properties with adequate compensation. Every day we get up in the
morning to hear the news that some Government officer was shot by the
LTTE. When a LTTE cadre was shot in Amparai area some time ago, Her
Excellency rushed to appoint a Commission to inquire into the killing
but Muslims and Sinhalese are being shot like dogs and Her Excellency
does not care a damn. It is now an established fact that the majority
of tsunami victims are Muslims numbering to 53% and still Government
insists on going on with the Joint Mechanism for relief for the LTTE,
not the poor Tamils, enabling the LTTE make use of aid to build bunkers.
We call upon the Muslims to join the Sinhalese and oppose this move
of Her Excellency."
