Hmmmmm..... This proves that all moderate and patriotic forces will flock around Mahinda while extremists will swarm around Ranil. Mahinda's great traits are working.

The CWC leader Arumugam Thondaman's decision to support the UNP has triggered split within the CWC.

CWC heavyweights ex-MPs P. P. Devaraj, S. Sathasivam and T. V. Sennan met prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday and extended their wholehearted support to ensure his victory, party sources said on Tuesday.

Ceylon Workers Alliance General Secretary S. Sathasivam addressing the local and foreign media at Holiday Inn, Colombo yesterday evening said that they had a meeting with Prime Minister Rajapakse last morning, expressed their faith in him. They had decided to ensure his victory which would be a victory for the 1.5 million Tamil people of Indian origin.

He said Senior Minister John Seneviratne, PA General Secretary Minister D. M. Jayaratne and Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle were associated with the Prime Minister during their discussion.

He said that the party had presented 14 proposals before the Prime Minister who had assured them he would include them in his policy statement to be released on Sunday.

Responding to questions from journalists as to whether an MoU had been signed with Prime Minister Rajapakse, Ceylon Workers Alliance President T. V. Sennan said that he believed that agreements were meaningless and they had complete faith in Prime Minister Rajapakse's word and placed their future in his hands.

General Secretary S. Sathasivam said that CWA organiser for Colombo district Christopher Rajan, son of former CWC heavyweight A. M. D. Rajan, S. Sivasundaram Assistant Secretary CWA and Opposition leader

Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha, W. Ratnam Assistant Secretary, S. Sahadevan Assistant Secretary, K. Kanagaraj Vice President CWA, M. Y. Rajah, Organizer Ratnapura and Balangoda, T. V. Sennan President and P. P. Devaraj Patron and Advisor Ceylon Workers Alliance were in the delegation that met the Prime Minister.

General Secretary Sathasivam said that the CWA political wing had had a series of debliberations with its national council members and after careful consideration, the CWA had unanimously resolved to support the presidential candidature of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse.

The CWA National Council and the political wing members were of the view that the issues affecting the estate workers and people of Indian origin should be reminded.

It was the candid view of the CWA that these 14 important issues that affect the future wellbeing of the Indian Tamil community that had been deprived of its well being should be incorporated in the UPFA manifesto.

He said that as the CWC leader had betrayed the poor masses and if someone was trying to gain power riding on the backs of the Indian Tamil population he should countered forthwith without any delay by the CWA.
