IS CEASEFIRE TALKS AIMED TO MAP OUT ELIMINATION OF KARUNA GROUP?

Charles Perera

Mr.A.A.M.Nizam Matara, had correctly prophesied, in his article on the above subject, the reason for the sudden change of heart of the terrorists to have direct talks with the Government in Oslo. And his arguments are well worth to be brought to the notice of the Government and published in National media.

There appears to be no real necessity for talks with the terrorists at this moment when the Karuna faction is active in a gradual elimination of the LTTE. Karuna is giving a good challenge to LTTE. The LTTE’s and their Norwegian Champions’ talk about slipping into war is a bluff, that the Government should not fall into.

One also questions why the dishonest merchants of “peace” from Norway has arranged the meeting in Oslo. We cannot rely on the bona fide of Norway , as much as that of the Terrorists. At the talks the Government will be alone against the LTTE and the sly Norwegian wayfarers.

Therefore, the government delegation should be composed of persons, who will not meekly give into the experienced bargainers of LTTE, who got most of what they wanted from UNF Delegation, without giving anything in return. The discussions should be around the killings, kidnappings, child soldiers, taking ransom, taxing, political offices, access to LTTE controlled areas by government officers, against forced manifestations, displaying of their flag etc. It is better say “No” and break up the talks rather than give into them.

The government delegation should not consist of persons who want to please the President, but who could decide matters independently without putting into risk the sovereignty of Sri Lanka.
