H.E. Mahinda Rajapakse, What is the Magic Number of SLA Soldiers that Need to be Slaughtered by the LTTE Before You Authorize Effective Counter-Measures?

Nissanka

Shame! Today the country's youth who have put their life and limb in harms way by joining the armed forces, to safeguard the motherland, are being used in a yet another diabolical "peace" experiment. They are being picked for slaughter by the LTTE terrorists like how one picks dummy-ducks in a shooting gallery.

These young Sinhela soldiers, mostly rising from the less-wealthy class of our society, are now being sacrificed to keep the LTTE from "resorting to all out war." They are being asked to sacrifice life for the sake of "peace," in a yet another GOSL's "peace" experiment. What is the strategy here one must ask.

How many more of these young brave men must be grenade blasted or T-56 razed before the GOSL says enough is enough? Why is the GOSL sending these troops out of the barracks, on patrol or other duties, if no anti-assassin or other counter-ambush measures are being allowed? What I mean by anti-assassin or counter-ambush measures is the deployment of military's own special forces' crack ambush-sniper teams to lie in wait and "pop" the enemy's assassin teams when they assemble for ambushes. In other words, the hunter should become the hunted.

Over the past 30 days nearly 25 soldiers/policemen have died and over 50 have been wounded. How long must this docile attitude on the part of GOSL go on before we see mass desertions in the SL armed forces? After all, what soldier will accept the fact that what they have signed up for is essentially to be cardboard targets for the LTTE?

The pride and honor they thought they had of joining the famed Sri Lanka's armed forces, having a gallant history of fighting foreign invaders over 2500 years, is turning out to be mother-load of crap! The debasing of the SL armed forces was started by the imbecile Ranil Wickremasinghe for the sake of "peace" and it is sad to see that program is still continuing.

Commander Sarath Fonseka, do you not feel for your troops who are being slaughtered daily? Do you not hear the anguished cry of this "peace time" soldier blasted by the enemy's grenade or riddled with T-56 bullets when bleeding to death?

I am sure the cry of anguish is not merely physical pain, but the ultimate humiliation of dieing without a fight - every soldier's most hurtful regret when he knows life is passing away. I can just imagine how Rommel or Patton would have felt if the troops under their command were asked to be used as dummy-targets for enemy's gunfire to suit some warped political agenda! Shame!
