Has President Rajapaksa lost his Marbles?

Prof. Hudson McLean

During the past few weeks, the inability to lead the Island out of a bloodbath and by feeding Sri Lankan Defence Forces (SLDF) and the Police as cannon-fodder to the LTTE Terrorists, begs one question!

Has the President Mahinda Rajapaksa (MR) got what it takes to defend the Island of Sri Lanka and her population from the murderous LTTE Tamil Tigers?

The two previous Prime Ministers from opposing factions, under ex-President Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge were behaving like mere "whimps". (Actually, one was the current President). A similar statement was made by the then President Ronald Reagen expressing his opinion on his VP George Bush on his declaration to contenst the Presidency of USA, and it seems that it runs in that family as well as in other countries.

Sri Lanka, since the change of name from Ceylon, never produced a leader of any quality, other than D.S. Senanayake and General Sir John Kotalawela. Since then two families the Bandaranayake's and Jayawardane's took over the Island using financial muscle, but with no backbone to lead the country. Both families pulled the strings which made their wealth grow, disproportionately, whilst the poor were reduced to subsistance levels.

Sri Lanka needs strong leadership. A real Commander-in-Chief who can stand above the terrorist. One who can gain the respect of the SLDF.

Especially after the Tsunami which devastated the Island and killed mostly the poor, the National Leadership must deliver comfort to those who suffered. The SLDF are made up largely from this segmant. The poor, who have joined the SLDF to support their families. When they join the SLDF, they have no doubt that they will face the Line-of-Fire. But would they ever imagine that the Line-of-Fire from the LTTE Terrorists would receive a Green Light from their own masters? That is exactly the case right now. This is not Leadership. This is "whimping".

A true leader will give a highest degree of security to those who provide security to protect his citizens. Whilst the Leader MR trims his moustache, another ten soldiers are slaughtered. MR came into a world he selected by own choice, by himself, which he knew for over fifty years. He was not elected as the President of the South West of Sri Lanka, but the entire Island.

Is MR big enough to claim the Title of Leadership of the whole Island? Or is he already suffering from the Peter Principle, "Reached the ultimate level of incompetence"?

The entire civilized world has recognized that the LTTE Tamil Tigers are less than Vermin. Most countries have banned or proscribed these uncivilized barbarians. But not Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan governments have allowed them to import or smuggle their weapons. Build an infrastructure. Allowed them to take over the entire Island for maintaining stockpiles of munitions and ordnance.

Norway sent them their state-of-the-art communications equipment with the tacit approval of the Sri Lankan Government (SLG). When ever the Terrorists wish to have a picnic overseas, they are given a safe "sunshine route" transport package GRATIS by the SLDF choppers. So that the LTTE can preach their doctrine overseas, paid for by the poor citizens of Sri Lanka.

This infact is placing the terrorism on a pedestal, making a joke out of killing.

Why can't the SLG give the same degree of protection to the SLDF and the Police?

The first 100 days of the Presidency will come soon to an end soon. What has MR got to show his electorate of 51%, since the rest of the country did vote against him, apart from his dyed hair and moustache, and a red shawl round his neck?

Your Excellency, You have now paid Your homage to India. Before You start your next global escapades, Silence the Weapons of Destruction of the Terrorists against the poor citizens. Give the complete responsibility to very competent professional Officers in the SLDF.

Mr. President, Find your marbles but Stop Playing with them!
