Defence Secretary & Military Chiefs Asses Security in East

Defence Secretary Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Air Chief Marshal GD Perera, the Commanders of three services and Inspector General of Police (IGP) held a special discussion today (03) with the ground commanders in the East regarding the security measures to be taken against the LTTE atrocities in the area.

The Defence Secretary and the top military Commanders after being received by the Commander Security Forces Headquarters - East (SF HQ-E), were taken to 22 Divisional Headquarters at Trincomalee and 23 at Welikanda where commanders of Brigades and Units met the top military chiefs to review the security standard.

The humanitarian De-Mining programe and the resettlement of IDPs back in their native areas were discussed at length and later Military officials briefed the ground Commanders on security measures that need to be taken with regard to the LTTE violence.

Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, CDS, the Commanders of the three services and IGP appreciated the contribution of the soldiers who are deployed in the East before they left for Colombo.
