LEADING GENERATING MARKETS IN EUROPE RELAX TRAVEL ADVISORIES AGAINST TRAVEL TO SRI LANKAPress ReleaseFrance a Total Lift while UK, Germany, Netherlands A Considerable RelaxationSeveral leading markets in the Western Europe are relaxing the travel advisories prevailed during the recent past enabling the tour operators in those markets to sell Sri Lanka as before through their tour packages. Out of these the French Government has totally lifted the travel advisory against traveling to Sri Lanka effective from 2nd October 2007 allowing all French tour operators & travel agents to resume selling their travel packages to Sri Lanka. France being almost the 3rd largest market for Sri Lanka will now be very much in favour for the country's tourism industry. An impressive promotional event led by Sri Lanka Tourism was held in France on 11 September with a view to maximize the opportunities that are online. The Netherlands travel advisory prevailed as Sri Lanka is "unsafe for travel" has now been softened with only a caution to the travelers which will immensely benefit Sri Lanka Tourism. Netherlands on an average generates 20,000 tourists annually. Further promotions targeting Netherlands market will be launched very soon. UK & German markets are also now softening the travel advisories against travel to Sri Lanka deleting the previous advise which was "against travel to Sri Lanka if not essential". The resurrection of the Eastern Region and the victories by the forces restoring peace in Colombo city and in and around tourist areas has extensively contributed to this emerging trend. We Sri Lanka Tourism are aggressively developing advertising and public relation strategies to make use of this favourable market situation in the Western Europe which is still Bread & Butter for Sri Lanka Tourism.
