A Damned Gilchrist

Dilrook Kannangara

So that was the secret to his success at the finals after a poor season though started well with the birth of his third child. He spilled the beans when he declared to all that he concealed a squash ball charm. However, it is different to carrying a red handkerchief by a previous cricketer as kerchiefs are allowed!

If the spirit of the game is to be upheld, Australia should be stripped of the WC title. Nothing can be taken to the field that does not unusually comprise a cricketer’s gear. Therefore, his good luck charm should land him in the naughty corner.

ICC should not allow the finals of its four yearly big event to be brought to disrepute; any delay in stripping those who at fault will surely shake the credibility of the so called ‘gentlemen’s game’. Pakistan and Australia should have same rights and be governed by same laws in cricket; I’m sure ICC does not use discretionary laws.

It is worthwhile to look up to the FIFA referee’s decision in the 2006 World Cup soccer match between Australia and Italy. Had the correct decision not been taken, Italy would have been denied of their title to Soccer world champions.

Ball tampering, illegal bats, chucking, colourful handbands, etc. have been banned for cricketers; even excessive advertising!

What's good for the goose is good for the gander; please uphold the law; the cricketing world awaits the decision that separates cheats from sportsmen.
