Myths, threats, bullying, and mischief by dollar slavish peacenicks, NGO vultures, lackeys of foreign elements, embassy ruffians, and media poodles failed to sway the government from its twin goals of freeing the nation from the terrorist menace and undertake mega development projects in the rural areas. To indirectly boost these failed gangs, a new species has joined the reactionary bandwagon in a desperate attempt to mislead the people with distorted and doctored information, and misguide the innocent masses with false propaganda. This new species, known as e-mail proxies of the reactionary gang consist those frustrated with the shattering of illusory hopes they harboured on the fall of the government by blindly believing in reactionary propaganda, those envious of losing the unjust privileges and social status they enjoyed, and those resentful of the common man getting elevated to prominence in the society. They make desperate and futile attempts to prevent persons supporting the government’s just cause and aspirations of the masses to eliminate the terrorist menace and develop the hitherto neglected rural areas.

These e-mail proxies use e-mail facilities to force-feed people with well manipulated reports of NGO vultures financed by Norway and other vested interests. They also attempt to force-feed impudent and baseless articles and reports written by scribes belonging to the reactionary media mafia (who were part of the notorious media unit in the previous government) and published in the rag sheets belonging to media barons loyal and related to vested interests. These e-mail proxies misconstrue that such dim-witted attempts could prevent or dissuade patriotic masses from supporting the government, or fighting against the terrorist cause. The utter ignorance and political bankruptcy of these e-mail proxies make them fail to understand that those who are committed and wedded to progressive politics hunt for material and information from all sources and infer opinion only after thorough and meticulous analysis of such information applying the dialectical norms governing opinion formation.

There is hardly any difference between these e-mail proxies and the terrorist proxies who gained entry to the parliament by unscrupulous means which was clearly condemned in the report of the EU observers. They just parrot the statement and slogans of the terrorist leadership and the new species e-mail proxies circulate fabrigated information of the reactionary circle. As the activities of TNA proxies even in foreign soil has failed to gain currency to what they attempt to project and tarnish the image of the government (their recent European tour has ended without any success), attempts being made daily by e-mail proxies to tarnish the government, belittle and demean the gallant acts of our security forces, disparage the massive transformation underway in rural areas would indeed end in failure.

If these e-mail proxies without lavishing in the luxuries of their air-conditioned offices, take a few hours leave and venture to the rural Sri Lanka they would find development activities such as major irrigation projects including Moragahatenne, Power projects including Narcocholai, Kotmale, a coal power plant envisaged in liberated Sampur, major development activities in Trinco, development activities in the down South from Matara to Moneragala which was a totally neglected area in the past, development under Jathika Saviya, Gama Neguma and Nagenahira Navodaya programmes to name a few.

The e-mail proxies may have been travelling in their chauffer driven luxury vehicles in which they could not feel the difference of Sri Lanka’s pot-hole filled rural roads in the past and the fully carpeted roads of the present. Even it was possible to fish in the pot holes of our (former) roads in rainy days our village folk used to say. The massive transformation of rural roads into highways does not meet eyes of these reactionary self obsessed e-mail proxies.

Most of these e-mail proxies deliberately avoid paying taxes, cheat the government at every turn, grossly misuse facilities meant for the poor with forged documentation, and carp immensely about the cost of living. Can they name a single item that the government under their reactionary leader Ranil Wickremasinghe reduced during the dark era of 2 years under which terrorists were provided many facilities violating rules and regulations and even denying millions of customs revenue to the government?

The e-mail proxies believing that all Sri Lankans are bloody fools attempt to compare the prices of goods prevailed in the 2 years of dark rule and now. The price of oil alone is sufficient to counter their ignorance. The price of oil was 26 dollars a barrel then and it is over 70 dollars presently with the possibility of exceeding one hundred dollars soon. Even oil producing countries have increased the local prices of petrol and other petroleum products. A major Middle East oil exporter increased its local prices by 32 percent at the beginning of this year. Asian oil giant Indonesia too increased the prices. Oil producing India has done the same several times this year. Another leading oil producer Iran has introduced a ration system.

Why are they attempting to hide the colossal wastage prevailed in the 2 years of dark rule? Auditor General’s report on the state of the art ICT project for modernizing communication system in Parliament, sponsored by the UNDP was one such project. It has been revealed that most of the funds earmarked for the project had been squandered on consultants, experts, overseas training, specialized project reports, seminars/ workshops in five star comfort and bringing down experts from aboard. Is this the development they carried out by burdening the tax payer for repayment of the borrowed money? What benefit the ordinary masses could get from such projects?

The days of slogan shouting and voting for a packet of meal and a bottle of Arrack heeding the call of Haamu Mahattayas and Loku Nonas have gone into the history. Rural masses have taken the reins now in their own hands and are working hard to transform their own villages and their own destiny, for the benefit of the posterity. Even a child with teeny knowledge of economics will understand that elimination of terrorism and acceleration of developments are vital ingredients for the development of this country. Those who subscribe to and collaborate with the enemy forces hell-bent on rescuing the terrorist from getting eliminated and reverse the development work are certainly doomed to fail.
