The lives of the President, Commanders of the Armed Forces, VIPs , and Civilians are in danger. Security measure should be constantly updated.

By Charles.S.Perera

Can one depend on the security checks by the personnel in charge of security ?

There had been far too many security failures due to their negligence. If there had been proper security checks the late Lakshman Kadirgamar would not have been assassinated. If the area around which the late Jeyraj Fernandopulle was to be present was carefully surveyed and a proper security measures had been taken, the Late Jeyraj Fernandopulle would still be living with us. It is the same with the attempted assassination of the Commander of the Army Sarath Fonseka, and the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse.

Had there been no negligence of security and security surveillance was in place the attack on the Anuradhapura Air Base by the black tigers could have been avoided. There were four or five successful aerial attacks by the tin air planes of the tigers, and in each case the negligence of security measures was evident. Therefore, is it not time that once again, one poses the question as to what extent one could depend on security measures in place.

In view of this recurrent negligence, the lives of the President, the Commanders of the Security Forces, and other VIPs are in constant danger. Therefore it is high time that the VIPs themselves verify security measures before they venture out into the open where the danger of assassination is present.

Both Military and Civil airports should be constantly under surveillance and verified "non-stop" every moment of the day and night. This should be made absolutely clear to the persons responsible, as the danger of assassinations, claymore and suicide bomb attacks could be expected any time now as the Security Forces get closer to Kilinochchi.

No excuses should be made for breach of surveillance from now onwards. All the persons in charge of security, should be checked in turn by a second group of security officers, to be absolutely sure that non stop security measures are in place. These measures should be applied every where in the Island.
