RAMDOSS ADMITS THEY HAVE FAILED TO SAVE THE MOMENTUM
TO PROTECT THE FUTURE OF TAMIL TIGERS IN SRI LANKA

By Walter Jayawardhana

Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S. Ramdoss who, like Vaiko, has become staunch supporter of the beleaguered, concerned and trapped Velupillai Prabhakaran has bemoaned the waning support for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Ramdoss said in Chennai, November 1, “The tempo of Tamil Nadu’s anger is on the wane. Though huge funds are being collected as relief for the suffering Tamils of Sri Lanka, they have little bearing as the killings are going on unabated (in Sri Lanka),” referring to the failing vigil organized by his party and that of Vaiko, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam (MDMK)

It was also a subtle attack on Ramdoss’ caoation partner DMK who are collecting a fund to buy food for civilians in the Kilinochchi and Malathivu areas where , on a day by day basis LTTE is increasingly getting beaten up. DMK was successfully able to divert the Tamil Nadu political sympathy building around the Tamil extremist parties by establishing a fund to support Tamil civilians troubled by the war.

Ramdoss and Vaiko insist to stop the war to bail out Prabhakaran and his lieutenants whom the Sri Lankan government has promised to hand over to the Indian government for the trial of the killing of the late Rajiv Gandhi.

‘The politically powerful in India including the state and central government are not insisting on the end to military operations against Tamils in Sri Lanka - which is the only crying need of the hour. Instead there is a lot of useless rhetoric here,’ said Ramdoss critical of his coalition partner , the DMK who stopped anti-Lanka war campaign, that would have helped Prabhakaran. Ramdoss and Vaiko both lost their struggle to impose a ceasefire on Sri Lanka.

Ramdoss is a person who is advocating a separate state for the Vanniars , a cast living the state of Tamil nadu. According to the 2001 census of India, the Vanniyars form 12.4 per cent of the state’s population. But the whole caste does not support the party, PMK. The PMK is now a coalition partner of the DMK administration in Chennai and and the New Delhi administration of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
