Mr. M.K.Narayanan is advicing us, looking over his shoulders at Karunanidhi and Vaiko.

By Charles.S.Perera

Mr.M.K.Narayanan seems to have forgotten that Sri Lanka has rather a serious problem in the North with a group of terrorists. That is the reason that the government Forces are at the moment trying to stop them committing lot of damage to the already suffering civilians in the areas under their control. The Tamil civilian population that had been forced to stay in Killinochchi by the terrorists to provide a human shield to stop serious damage to themselves, are reported leaving to army controlled areas. The Government is taking action to finish with the "war" with the terrorists so that it could attend to the provision of welfare to IDP.

There could be collateral damage in civilian areas, but so far the ground forces of the government as well as the Air force have taken precautionary measures to avoid danger to the civil population. Therefore India need not be overly concerned as matters are under control and the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government Forces are taking necessary measures, and Indian help is now too late to be offered.

India could have helped earlier but then Mr. Narayanan was rather too occupied with other matters, to come to the help of the Government of Sri Lanka. The best that India could now do is to "get off our backs" and let the Government of Sri Lank solve its problem , and India could in the meantime look after itself , as it seems to have a terrorist problem already in hand.

Vital supplies are being sent to Kilinochchi for the welfare of the Tamil Civilians population and also for the terrorists even before Mr. Narayanan reminded us. If Narayanan is worried about the welfare of the terrorist he may be rest assured that they are well fed with the rations now being despatched to the Civil population.

The terrorists are now been cornered , and that is why Karunanidhi, Vaiko and the rest in south are concerned. They did not do much to improve the condition of the Tamil Civilians in the terrorist controlled areas and it is not now they could intervene to help those poor people. Vaiko like Narayanan is concerned with the terrorists. They need not worry with regard to the terrorists, as they are being taken care of by the Government Forces. Indian Government could be assured.

There is of course a growing sense of insecurity , not only among the minority communities ,but also among the majority as Prabhakaran the terrorist "talaivar" has begun to disperse the suicide bombs, and one had already exploded causing the death of over 25 civilians, among them a National Hero, and a political leader. That is if Mr.Narayanan cares to know about the fate of our Communities in the non combat areas.

Perhaps, Mr. Narayanan could imagine with what great restraint, the Sri Lanka Government is addresses the growing feeling of insecurity among the Communities. The government is hoping that the terrorist menace will soon be over with so that it could revive the political process.

The problem with the fishing boats is that as the battle against the terrorists is reaching the final stage, the terrorists could hide among the Indian fishing boats carrying with them explosive to create chaos in the south. Therefore the Indian fishing boats may come under surveillance, but no harm will be done to the fishermen as false propaganda with regard to ill treatment of the Indian fishermen are exaggerated allegations made by Viko group.

Therefore Mr. Narayanan need not be too concerned with regard to our people. We will look after them. In the mean time Narayanan should go ahead with his election campaign, and we will get on with our rehabilitating programme after finishing off with terrorism. For that the Government of Sri Lanka need some peace of mind, and hope that Mr.Narayanan will understand.
