Dear Mr. John Clancey:

Re: Sri Lanka and Human Rights Violations

I have just read with great trepidation your ‘Urgent Appeal” saying “Please write letters to the authorities listed below and urge them to investigate this incident and prosecute those responsible”. And the letters you wanted to be directed to Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka; Mr. Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and a few other politico-public servants in Sri Lanka, and you had also drafted a possible letter to be sent out.

Do you know what? If the premise of your Board of Directors is that “there is a fool born every minute of the day”, then count me out, as I won’t be dragged into your campaign which shows every conceivable bias in favour of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) aka ‘Tamil Tigers’. Your belligerent campaign against the Sri Lankan Government is almost making me suspicious that AHRC is a paid pseudo-humanitarian lobbyist pandering to the separatist Eelam cause. And the Tamil Tigers got billions of dollars to buy the support of the influential that matters and they have done it before. And I want you all to come clean and convince me that you all are not inflicted by the “show me the money” syndrome.

Here are the reasons why.

In every ‘CASE DETAIL’ you had quoted you all had pointed your fingers at the Sri Lankan Government at every opportunity and not once had you mentioned the LTTE the main culprit in the thousands of innocent civilian deaths. This is amazing and a shame, and culpable of being a bunch of no-good devious Tamil Tiger lackeys. How come and why? Are you afraid that you all will be intimidated by this ruthless terrorist group that keep popping claymore mines all over the country like fire crackers celebrating a dawn of a New Year, when they see a bus loaded with school children or Buddhist pilgrims counting their rosary beads in meditation; or that the barrel’s of their Kalashnikovs will be leveled at your bleeding hearts, wanting to watch them really bleed, oozing and gushing out like a broken bottle of tomato ketchup. That is what these Tamil Tigers are good at, and you lot are covering every bloody foot print of theirs after a killing back to their bunkers under the guise of the words ‘Human Rights’. I am disappointed and a bit annoyed.

Nor did I recognize a single Sinhalese name in your list of victims.
They were all Tamil, which prove positive that you are a bunch of no good lackeys of the Tamil Tigers. Or did I miss any? With my knowledge of ethnic names, Gnasooriyar, Pakiyanathan, Sinnaiya, Sivarasa are all Tamil names. So are Sundaram, Rajasooriyan, Thanabalasingham, Packiyalauxmy all Tamil. Where are the names Ranjith, Kusumawathie, Rohana, Renuka and Kamalawathie? They too died you know, killed by the Tamil Tigers while traveling in a bus blasted out of this earth with a claymore mine. That is where your bias is so shockingly apparent. That is where you expose yourselves as a bunch of no-good, pseudo-humanitarian activist lackeys of the Tamil Tigers. Think about it? You are now exposed!

In this war, it is not only the Tamils who die but also the innocent Sinhalese civilians that the Tamil Tigers brazenly target to snuff out almost every day. How come you missed the massacres of 13 civilians in a claymore blast at Ethawatunwewa in Anuradhapura; a Tiger terrorist suicide bomb attack at Colombo Fort Railway Station, a bus blasted at Nittambuwa, the massacre at Kebitogollewe, and the massacre of Sinhalese school children at Okampitiya for your CASE DETAILS. All these were Tamil Tiger attacks, and the Sinhalese were the victims. You all should be hanging your heads down with shame.

This is where you failed to project yourselves as a group of truly unbiased bunch of Human Rights activists. You have now been striped of all your seven veils of deception proving that you are another bunch of no good bleeding hearts with an agenda to target the Sri Lankan Government and not the Tamil Tiger terrorists who the FBI called, “The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is the most dangerous and deadly extremist organization in the world.”

You obviously pretend that you are talking with some authority when you have really looked at Sri Lanka’s situation with blinkered eyes. Take your blinkers off and you will find that Sri Lanka is continuing with their struggle against a “Made in India” terrorism, that has been so destructive, and that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government is doing their best to guard the most fundamental right of all, the ‘ right to life’ of all their citizens, and that includes the Tamils. And they shouldn’t be penalized for that honesty, for assuring millions of their citizens of their ‘right to life’, and trying to keep them from harms way from the marauding Tamil Tiger terrorists. Surely that act deserves a Nobel Prize for humanity, don’t you?

In your draft that you expect your supporters to send to Sri Lankan Government Officials you say, “…*the government should seriously reconsider the proposal from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to establish a human rights monitoring mission in Sri Lanka.”*

You all obviously don’t seem to understand the word “No” when the Sri Lankan government says ‘No” to such a proposal. They have oodles of reasons for that decision.

Among several they have told the UN, “…we are not going to permit institutions that have taken decades to set up to be supplanted by non Sri Lankan agencies. Allowing UN monitoring missions and an extended UN field presence to go wherever they like in the country is not keeping with our laws. We don’t want to be preached at by countries whose own human rights records are far from perfect. Sri Lanka would take advice from international bodies only when these had ‘transparency of funding’
and when their agendas were ‘not donor driven’.

“Due to our colonial history we are very sensitive to any large international presence and frankly, we are not going to allow large numbers of mediocre foreigners, many who have dodgy connections with western intelligence agencies to fan out over our country.

“Western governments` need to put their houses in order before they criticize us.”

So there you are folks, they cannot be any clear than that. In translating those words, what they are really saying to groups like you is just go fly a kite without trying to poke your noses into our affairs. Got it?

But let me be honest with you. Yes, I will write to all the persons that you have made a request to write as an “Urgent Appeal” supporting the Tamil Tigers indirectly. But my letter will be a Red Alert statement; watch out here comes another bunch of activists on a Tamil Tiger Choo-Choo Gravy Train, who calls themselves Human Rights activists under the banner of Asian Human Rights Commission. Don’t let them preach to you about Human Rights. They have an agenda and that is to destroy your democracy and to surreptitiously support the Tamil Tiger separatist cause. These guys have difficulty to mention the words ‘Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam’ or the words ‘Tamil Tigers’, so they are suspect.
Do what you have to do for your people to safeguard their lives, and the President should sing into these Human Right activists ears, “I will do it my way”.

If indeed you operate on the premise that a “fool is born every minute of the day”, let me inform you that it is not so. You are wrong and you better change that notion for the good of the civilized world and be honest when dealing with Sri Lanka, and recognize that they are at war, and a conventional war at that and have joined the world consortium to eradicate terrorism. Tamil Tigers are terrorists, and Sri Lanka has embarked on their duty in supporting their global partners, to eradicate Tamil Tiger terrorism. It is that simple.

Sincerely,
Asoka Weerasinghe
