UNP Really Hurt That The LTTE is Getting Beaten

Sisira Pereira, Panadura

What is left of the UNP, under the feeble command of Ranil Wickramasinghe, does not wish to see the LTTE getting routed in the North as well. It is all too clear. They have seen enough now and they can’t wait any more.

But what have they seen enough of?

The truth is that Ranil and his left over UNP did not believe in one country at all. If they did, Ranil would not have signed the CFA in the first place, with the base of which the LTTE recently appealed to the UN to consider their UDI, even after the traitorous agreement has been effectively anulled.

The left over UNP and Ranil leading it never thought that Mahinda Rajapaksha, his thorn in the sight, would handle the war against the LTTE so precisely and well that , as a result, Ranil’s own inefficiency, dubiousness and traitorousness towards the country would be highlighted in capital.

The more success the SL armed forces notch against the LTTE under the leadership of Mahinda, the defence secretary and the three forces generals, the more heart-broken Ranil and his UNP tail become. Therefore, it is logical to say that he and his followers have seen enough of this war against the LTTE.

Yes it is true they saw what happened in the East but should they wait and observe the same thing happen to the North too? Of course not. Ranil will never be able to win another election until his dying day, if it so happens. If the forces are allowed to take Wanni with the existing high morale and able guidance, it would only spell doom for Ranil and his henchmen, pushing them into oblivion in the minds of the people.

Therefore, the left over UNP under the jackboot of Ranil is getting ready to intervene again with matters reagarding national security with a sinister purpose of blowing the morale of the soldiers fighting for their country (not that they have not done exactly that previously too). The valiant forces are fighting for our Country, mind you, not for Ranil’s country!

Thus, Ranil and the left over UNP want to create and disseminate "dissent" among the rank and the file of the Armed forces at this crucial times.

Just have a look at what is appearing in the “Lanka Dissent” recently.

When the cattle turns its head, the wise should know that the target is none other than the banana plant!

“The United National Party is planning to hold weekly news briefings to raise public awareness on the actual situation in the Wanni warfront, a top media official of the Opposition Leader's Office told 'Lanka Dissent.'

The UNP has taken the decision following pleas by the next of kin of soldiers who die or disappear during the ongoing military thrust in the Wanni, as the government was withholding the actual casualty numbers and was also gagging the media against exposing the truth, he said.

The party appreciates the soldiers for their fight against terrorism, but the present regime cannot be allowed to cover up the real situation, the spokesman said.”

The public has a right to know the identities of those who sacrifice their lives in battle.
Hence, the decision to tell the country the real state of affairs in the Wanni, he said”
