Diatribe Against Asian Tribune News Item By Canadian Sri Lankan Journalist Put Into Perspective

Through The Perera Periscope For LankaWeb By Senaratna Perera

June 25th 2008

The LankaWeb News item of 23rd June 2008 ASIAN TRIBUNE WRITES DAM LIES ABOUT MUSLIM YOUTH IN THE EAST seems a very boldly compiled submission and in what capacity may it be asked beyond apparent personal umbrage and conflicting assumptions does Noor Nizam. Sri Lanka Peace Activist, Communication Science and Multimedia University Teaching Personnel and Freelance Journalist. Canada have any entitlement to this tirade?
And having noted her inability to spell the word Damn correctly repeatedly which eliminated typo error! in the context she is purporting to illustrate while calling herself a journalist with a somewhat high faluting stamp of authority relative to her titles there seems to be a discrepancy between her status as journalist and the ability to spell the Queen's English which probably disentitles her to any further debate over the issue unless the entire item is read for satirical value perhaps with a touch of tongue in cheek as the essence of dam busting needed here, being another freelance Canadian based Journalist who interacts with very reputable Sri Lankan Government sources towards the issue being contested here inasmauch as other issues relatrive to what goes on in Sri lanka today on an on going basis and does not necessarily hyperventilate over assumptions which this whole scenario seems tantamount to!!

That the LTTE is trying to negotiate with Muslim groups and coming forward to provide arms training to them in Verukal as well as in Yala jungles – is hardly FALSE REPORTING given the LTTE's track record of recruitment attempts which have extended even as far as the Hill Country as well as many other areas and wherever they see vulnerability towards their recruitment objectives, so there's no need to get all huffed up over a reality that is transpiring in the Northern and Eastern parts of Sri Lanka which categorically and essentially is a fact of everyday life or was until the big wheels of the Armed Forces and their firepower rolled in that is!

Inference that "The article published in the Asian Tribune electronic newspaper dated Monday the 23rd., 2008 under the news line – “LTTE to train Muslim youths in the East: Thamilenthi in Amparai for groundwork” is a dam lie does not really link with the writer's status as there is more than what meets the common eye relative to Armed Forces intelligence

As a communication studies and multimedia educationist teaching the science of communication and multimedia in a leading university in Canada to say that " I have written with authority, after doing much research the article under the heading" seems the rhetoric of a self opinionated individual expressing a personal opinion. It needs to be pellucidated here that the Asian Tribune researches its news items relative to the ongoing situation in Sri Lanka based upon the accuracies of very credible sources and seems much stronger towards credibility than the bleatings of a whimsical journalist who seems to have turned emotional over what is more an ethnically motivated issue based on speculation as well as her own presumptions about it rather than the realities involved.

Indeed “FALSE NEWS REPORTING IS A GRAVE CRIME. JOURNALISTS SHOULD RESPECT AND ABIDE BY THE CODE OF ETHICS AND JOURNALISTIC CODES LAID DOWN, LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY” but to establish the credibilities of the accusations in the case of a prestigious News Journal such as the Asian Tribune whose track record and reputation of thorough and impeccable researching of published items by far outweighs the volumes of accusations, lop sided analogies and all in all a somewhat puerile outburst against AT or any other journal beyond being wayward and emotional accusations, innuendo and false presentations is also a criminal liabitity it is hoped as well as being very uprofessional, self opinionated and definitely unethical !

That Ms. Nizam seems to be up in arms about an accurately presented Asian Tribune submission whilst languishing in Canada and quite distanced from the areas outlined to moot!i.e. the immediatelocal areas of LTTE attrocities, seems somewhat high handed and contentious given the tone of her submission containing many unsubstantiable accusations against Asian Tribune which is probably more reputable towards its own integrities of news reporting than her Communication Science and Multimedia University which she cites and needs to be advised to tone down her tirades and diatribes which would probably draw the attention of unwelcome sources rather than gain any credibilities towards discouraging Asian Tribune News reporting where such attempts could also be interpreted as inadvertent pro LTTE propaganda regardless of the pleas about the innocence of the Muslim youth she refers to and the huge list of case histories and statistics towards her case which at the best of times seems garbled!!

A response from Asian Tribune also would be appreciated to clear the air on this matter and help its case and reputation if it already has not been done.
