protests and Bev Oda demands for a cease fire.

This is one Canadian who has long supported the efforts of the Sri
Lankan Government in quelling the 25 yr. old Tamil rebellion and the
Tamil Tigers.
I sympathise totally with the Sinhalise victims of Tamil atrocities
- suicide bombings, child soldiers, human shields and their efforts
to portray themselves all along as innocent victims of Government abuse.
I am not so easily fooled. Unfortunately, many uninformed Canadians
sympathise with the perceived underdogs, such that vour politicians
always urge the good guys to cease operations when they have the upper
hand in an armed conflict - never the reverse. Another case in point
- Israel defending itself against Palestinian terrorists in Gaza.
I recently bought a small official Sri Lankan flag, mingled with the
throng of Tamil protestors on University Ave., started waving your flag
and shouting support for your Government! At some risk I might add.
Should have seen the shocked looks on their faces! Within moments, someone
jumped up to snatch the flag out of my hand - it quickly disappeared
- while others pushed me to the rear and told me to leave! I had the
opportunity to at least let them know how little I cared for their cause,
and debated a few stragglers before leaving.
I plan to disrupt their human chain tomorrow as well! Protest the protestors!
I'm pleased you are not bowing to such pressure tactics. You must persevere
in rounding up or eliminating all remaining Tigers. A cessation of hostilities
would only give them a chance to regroup - and they pose a daily threat
to innocent Tamils who they shoot when trying to escape. Those who seek
a humanitarian solution should be told that your pressing on will save
more lives than any cease fire. You'd be RESCUING abducted civilians
from the clutches of the Tigers, not endangering them.
I regret our indiscriminate immigration policy has provided a safe haven
for so many Tamil Tiger operatives and terrorists to forcibly raise
funds to support the war back home - while killing other Tamils here
in the process. These are a brutal gang of zealots - not to be listened
to.
So do carry on. Disregard Bev Oda and others like her. Finish the job
for once and for all.
And let's hope the defeated Tigers won't turn their sights on the GTA
- carve out a new homeland here! Before the Muslims get a chance!
