Che Guevara, was an Argentinian Marxist Revolutionary. As a medical student, during his travels in Latin America he was transformed by poverty and economic inequality he had witnessed. In 1956, he joined Fidel Castro and invaded Cuba over-throwing the US backed Cuban dictator Batista. He served as Minister of Industry under Fidel Castro.

He was a politician, author, physician, military strategist, guerilla leader and social reformist invoking class struggles. In his writings he had elaborated that through his travels in Latin America he had come in close contact with poverty, hunger and disease. He cites these examples which made him exit medicine to help these people in the political arena of armed struggle.

In 1960, The Time Magazine, named him one of the 100ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ most influentialƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  people of the 20ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  century. A photograph of him taken by Alberto Korda on March 5 1960 , titled , Guerrillero HeroicoƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ was declared the, “most famous photograph in the world”.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
By 1965, Che Guevara was regarded as the second in power to Fidel Castro and TheƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Time Magazine dubbed him as “Castro’s brain”. Mid 1965 he left Cuba to incite revolutions in Congo and later in Bolivia.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
He had confidence in Bolivia as the Bolivian army was poorly trained and ill-equipped. But he was unaware that the US had sent a team of the CIA’s Special Activities Division Commandos and Army Special Forces to Bolivia toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ hunt him. On October 7th 1967 when his encampment was surrounded he knew there was no escape as the expected reinforcements had not arrived. Che Guevara’s crime was thatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ he was fighting against a dictator installed by the US .
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
While Che Guevara was a revolutionary with high ideals, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Prabhakaran is a terrorist who has noƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ideals. He believes only on the law of the Jungle. The LTTE is committed to offences suchƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as employing teenage girls as suicide bombers, conscription of children as soldiers, forcible useƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  of cyanide capsules, drug smuggling, weapons smuggling, human racketeering, illegal procurement of weapons, credit card/financial frauds, money laundering, assassinations and so on. The LTTE track record of killings is well known.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
After 26 years of war the terrorists are now cornered on a sliver of the No Fire Zone and the government is trying to sort out the problem once and for all. But the US and its allies are putting spokes to this and give a breather to the terrorists. This is because of the voting strength of the Tamil diaspora who are the supporting pillars of the terrorists.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
The Tamil diaspora lavishly funded the LTTE and called Prabhakaran, “Sooriya Thevan” (Sun God). The Western countries turned a blind eye to the transfer of funds until terrorism reached their doorstep. According to the National Post of 4th May, the Sri Lankan army had shown them an astounding array of arms found in Kilinochchi alone worth more than $20 million.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
All this money had come from the Tamil diaspora and from fund-raising operations by the Christian Church , the invisible hand behind the LTTE.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
The roles of revolutionaries and terrorists are poles apart. The former fight with fighters for an ideology while the latter attack unarmed civilians and become heroes among terror supporters. Therefore, PrabhakaranƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  cannot hold a candle to Che Guevara who has an image and stylized symbol worldwide. In Sri Lanka, we have numerous examples of terrorism by the LTTE. Therefore, terrorists, their supporters and terror backers are cowards.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
The Tamil diaspora have no sympathy to the Tamil civilians held as human shield. Their alliance is to the LTTE terrorists where as the sympathy of the government and the army is to the civilians behind whom the ‘Sun God’ is taking cover. He is no more ‘Sun God’ but the US and it Allies are making a desperate effort to resuscitate him.
