Damian Grammaticas is suffering from a serious bout of ‘adjectivitis’

There is little point in harping about the latest disgraceful and conspiratorial propaganda campaign of Gordon Weiss (an NGO white-ant that burrowed his way in to the UN) and the Western media over the last week. This time they clearly decided to use the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”assumedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ credibility of the UN through WeissƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ cover: the deception did not work at the Security Council.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

The broader public of the world including those in the West are used to these periodically shifting ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”shock, horrorƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ campaigns of these thieves, and their efforts are unlikely to succeed. What is important however is that the younger generations of Sri Lankans need to be educated on these conspiracies.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Damian Grammaticus of the BBC symbolises the media infrastructure of the West, designed very much to be part of their general ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”foreign affairsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ infrastructure. Their ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Foreign correspondentsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ are at the vanguard of spying in foreign countries, developing long-term links. They are handled by their embassies, briefed and debriefed at assignment and end of tenure, and are in constant contact with the embassy. The need for safeguarding this spy infrastructure is at the root of their promotion of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”freedom of the mediaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ at all costs as a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”universal valueƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢: if the developing countries limit access to these spies, things will become much harder!ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

To be chosen as a foreign correspondent, the graduate needs to be ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”long-nosedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ (canƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t be more specific) with an appropriate name. Despite the obvious risks involved in working as a foreign correspondent, there is keen interest on the job by two types of young media graduates of this group: the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”thrill-seeker type and those with grand ambitions of becoming international media ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”StarsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. Judging by his approach to the job, Damian Grammaticus appears to belong to the second type of these.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Western media is full of ambitious reporters, presenters and other ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”wannabesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. They hope the next international event will make them world famous as the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”one who attracted world attentionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢, the next Michael Buerk (who reported on the famine from Ethiopia) or Kate Adie (on the non-event of Tiananmen Square). Once informed of a foreign ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”trouble spotƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ by ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Reuters Alert NetƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢, they rush to like ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”flies to shitƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢, as they say in America.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

In the pursuit of glamour and fame, they become participants in the event, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”createƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ news, and sensationalise it to the maximum extent possible. BBCƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s current spy in Sri Lanka Damien Grammaticus is a classic example of this category of wannabe media star in the West: he is going to try and milk the Sri Lankan IDP issue for the last drop!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

GrammaticusƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ reports appear to be crafted carefully with the help of British Embassy instructions, using subtle techniques including subliminal messages and sequences similar to those used in advertising. He himself, not allowed to go to the war zone, appears to be the voice-over man who adds ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”bitsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ from Colombo interviews. Those who know the situation on the ground would find his obvious attempts at using adjectives and intonation to intensify emotions hilarious.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

One of the video clips currently posted on the BBC site is titled ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Fears of catastropheƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ in a clear attempt to deceive the viewer with the subtle use of word order to create a psychological effect: to highlight a non-existent ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”catastropheƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ (in terms of civilian deaths) without drawing attention to the totally speculative basis of the report.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Grammaticus uses the pictures that show an army rescue operation, but voiced over about the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”numbersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ of people trapped in the LTTE territory (that do not seem to be reducing from the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”UN estimateƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ of Gordon Weiss, of 50 000, despite the evacuations over several weeks by the army): he is talking about the civilians ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”dying in their hundredsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. Such certainty about the number of dying without being anywhere near the war zone! Grammaticus the Greek has sixth sense.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Then he uses the famous images released by the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”pro-Tamil groupsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ (they know bloody well that these are LTTE propaganda videos), and virtually disowns the footage after the viewer has absorbed the content subliminally.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

He ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”interviewsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ a young long-nosed ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”aid workerƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ Melanie Brooks (note the name) whose dress and level of grooming suggests that she has just walked out of the Oscars rather than an ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”aid workerƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ in a place like Mullatviu , Vavunia or Kilinochchi! She also has a story of suffering!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Then Grammaticus interviews the LTTE representative in Colombo, R. Sampanthan (who poses as Tamil National Assembly), without mentioning his allegiances.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

So the stories go on, and on, and on.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

The simple answer to these conspiracies is to totally disengage from their structures and move more towards the neighbourhood and the Middle Eastern friends.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
You canƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t trust these sickos!ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
