Dear Editor,
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Pleae let me respond to two letters in your esteemed journal;
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
1. Suryanarayan, the Chennai based “expert” on Sri Lankan affairs, who states that Rajapakse will be forced to treat the Tamil community fairly because the world community was watching or something to that effect.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Need I remind Suryanarayanan that the world community does not need to ‘force’ the President to do anything. What he did in destoying the LTTE was something that was imperative for a united Sri Lanka, where the Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and other minorities can live in peace and harmony. Nedd I also remind him that the President liberated the Tamil population fromƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ taxes by coercion, forced recruitment of little chidren by the LTTE for their ridiculous dream of Ealam, and countless otherƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ oppressive features including the brutal murder of his own people-including hs cohorts, when they daired toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ disagre e with him. Having deliveredthem from a vicious,fascist, ruthless ruler, who ordered the killing of anyone trying toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ escape his dreamland even when death stared him in the face?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The President has very clearly shown that he is a statesman, not a politician, by sticking to the objective of getting rid of the biggest obstacle for peace. He has clearly voiced his views for the future by exhorting unity among Sri Lankans, and knows that the Tamil population is as much part of Sri Lanka as the Sinhalese and the Tamils, and towards this end he, with his government will ensure the equal treatment of the Tamils. We never needed a Prbhakaran to sort out whatever problems we had, and we never will need the international community to police our future actions.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
2. Sam Zarifa of Amnesty International talks about the Democratic world’s quandary. First, Sri Lanka is part of the democratic world. Seond, Sri Lanka, one of the founder members of the Nonaligned Movement, has never been, nor ever will be at the risk of being engulfed by Iran or China. Sri Lanka has always and will always cooperate with all countries. Having economic relations with China does not pose any threat to the democratic principles of the country. If that were the case, wouldƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the US, which conducts such vast amounts of business with China would be at risk of going communist? What a ridiculous idea.
As far as punishing Sri Lanka is concerned, there is no doubt that there will be a lot of individuals and organizations, dissapointed by the demise of their darling terror boy, and their hopes of breaking up the sovereign state of Sri Lanka, eagerly awaiting the renewal of attacks in different ways on Sri Lanka who has done the impossible by defeating terrorismƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ at its source.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ People with greater foresight thanƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ some in AI will understand that Sri Lanka did what she had to do, thanks to a focused, driven and determined leaderƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ who carried out the will of its people.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Rather than talk about punitive measures and revenge, which will be the main focus of those Sri Lankan haters, the democratic world would do well to study the military tactics used by the Sri Lankans in destroying the worlld’s most ruthless, most unprincipled set of murderers for whom nothing wasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ sacred-don’t forget-they bombed the holiest shrine of the Buddhists,the Temple of the Tooth Relic,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ occupied and defiled one of the most sanctified places ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Catholics, Madhu Church, and destroyed holy mosques of the muslims,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ snatched infants from their mothers breast, bombed schools.. the list is endless. If the democratic world wants to punish anyon, let them punish the Tamil dispora which supported these murders who caused mayhem and madness in Sri Lanka, and took away thirty years of peace of an entire population. History must not be ignored. It would do well for the Sri Lanka government to send to IAƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ a fully documented list of the atrocities of a terrorist group whose main aim was to grab some power in their lifetime- not to help the Tamil population. Let the democratic world also join hands to help Sri Lanka now,so that they can do what needs to be done. The democratic world knows very wellƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the extent ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the damageƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the vicious terrorists have done to the country by forcing it to fight a thirty year war, when theyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ could haveƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ joined hands with the rest of the contry throgh peaceful means. For goodness sake, the only person whoƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ could lay claim to similarityƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to the leaders of Yugoslavia or the other countries mentioned by the eminent Mr. Zarifa is gone to join his forebears. So stop talking drivel and rejoice in the victory of the Sri Lankan nation.
