John McKay, MP Liberal MP for Scarborough- Guildwood House of Commons, OttawaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Dear John:

Thanks for the courtesy requesting me to sign your petition which you wish to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-submit to the House of Commons regarding the atrocities in Sri Lanka on behalf of the Tamil community in our riding.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

I would have gladly driven five hours from Ottawa to sign it if you had the honesty to admit that there had been ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-atrocities in Sri Lanka on behalf of the Sinhalese community too in our riding.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

You know John, the Sinhalese and Muslims that your Tamil Tiger prodigies bombed, massacred, claymore-mined and their infants plucked from their motherƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s arms and their heads bashed against rocks splitting them into two, too were children of the same God as that of the Tamils.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That is where you have failed.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That is where you Liberals have failed as honest politicians.

You say, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-To date I have collected 106 pages of signatures representing over 1,500 constituents in the riding and surrounding areas.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I plan on submitting these petitions to the House of Commons in groups of 100 signatures daily until all the names have been submitted.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

John, every night after submitting that petition, I hope your conscience will be clean as a whistle and not bothered when you close your eyes ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ when you go to sleepƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and see the images of dead innocent Sinhalese kids massacred by your Tamil Tigers with their eyes opened gazing at you asking for pity;ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the 62 compassionate eyes of the novice Buddhist monks who were pulled out of a bus and shot dead by your Tamil Tigers at Arantalawa looking straight into your eyes forgiving you; ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and the 128 eyes of the innocent civilians which included children and Buddhist monks who were claymore-mined on 15 June 2006, at Kebitigollawa gazing at you almost asking you, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- did we deserve to be killed ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ this way by your Tamil Tigers?ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  All these Sinhalese that died at the hands of the Tamil Tiger terrorists were children of the same God as that of the Tamils who had died ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in the battlefield seeking their separate state Eelam, that you are now crying for with a passion.

By the way John, I believe that it hadnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t sunk into you when you sent me the e-mail on May 20, at 4:19 PM, that 48 hours earlier, that the Eelam war had ended with their leader Velupillai Prabhakaran killed and with him other ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ leaders, Soosai, Pottu Amman, Nadesan, Pullendran and several others during battle.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It is over. It is finished.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That is the end John and the guns have been silenced and Sri Lanka has been liberated from the scourge of Tamil Tiger terrorism.

Perhaps, you may want to turn the page and now embark on helping the 280,000 TamilƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ internally displacedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ persons who were liberated by the Sri Lankan Armed forces who were held hostage by your Tamil Tigers as a Human Shield.

May be, you may wish to lobby the GovernmentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  for moreƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ aid for Sri Lanka to have them resettled quickly with their homes, schools, hospitals and roadsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  built, and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ water and electricity restored.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I hope you have the will to do just that to help all Sri LankansƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ who areƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ looking ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ forward to an era of peace and tranquility, where all communities could live in harmony as brothers and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ sisters as they had done before.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It was so in the south of the island while the Tamil Tigers were fighting for their patch of real estate up north to call it Eelam.

As a final note, perhaps you may wish to wash that film of Sinhalese blood off from your palms with a confession asking for forgiveness, thus:

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-O Lord, I wish to confess that , as a Liberal parliamentarian,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I was wrong to help the Tamil Tigers to kill the innocent ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sinhalese and Muslim civilians to accomplish their mythical dream of a separate State carved out of one-third of the land and bordered by 66 percent of the coastline.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I confess that I was wrong when I believed in my Tamil constituents who had the habit of lying to me, and it all came to a matter of dollars and cents and I needed this job at the parliament to place a plate of food on the dinner table for myƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ family, and I became ruthless as they were.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I now ask you to forgive me as I know I was wrong, and I am sorry.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  With your chalice of holy water, I would like you to wash off this film of Sinhalese blood on my palms, and with that all my sins I collected by trying to help my Tamil constituents who wanted to destroy that beautiful little sovereign island nation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Thank you my Lord.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Amen!ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

John, if you listen intently, you might hear a voice with a Sinhalese accent whisper into your ears, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-John, my son, you are now been forgiven.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Please donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t do it again.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

Sincerely,

Asoka Weerasinghe
