Emdeejay.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

For achieving a feat that no other has, in modern times, my hats off to His Excellency, The PresidentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  of Sri Lanka, our motherland ,right honourable Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse, you are really great Sir ! You did something that these conceited armies of the world, loaded with sophisticated warring equipment & assistedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ logistics, (only they can afford, are still bogged in their wars of intrusion in Iraq, Afghanistan), ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ are ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ envious of!!

It gives me great pleasure of being Sri Lankan today. I had the privilege of attending the same high school as our eminent President, (a year junior & more, we share the same first name!)I remember him just like today, always impeccably dressed in white.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We had mates of allƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ groups;ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Jeff Ratnam (Tamil) a rugby great. Shafi Abdeen (Malay) a boxing & rugbyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ great. Haris Perera (sinhala) a cricket great & I could go on. And itƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s still that way in schools in Sri Lanka, though the ungrateful Tamil Diaspora, who conveniently settled in these western capitals claim that they are “discriminated “!!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Having moved to Paris in 1978 to join the international civil service, I noticed that the events of July 1983 changed “our Island in the sunƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ forever. Why did the main stream Tamils let a mob of thugs with arms highjack their identity on a bogus banner of “discriminationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚? Why did the Tamils who, after receiving free education, move to these western capitals and indulge in false propaganda against their motherland? Are they blatantly unfaithful, or did they really have an axe to grind? HavenƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t we all at some stage or other feel discriminated & carry some grievance? That’s life anyway, anywhere. There are haves & haveƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ nots all over Sri Lanka & elsewhere. The Tamils do not have the monopoly of that!! What about the Burgher population on whom really felt discriminated due to the implementation of the then Language policy?

They moved mostly down under, but still speak fondly of the island they left behind. They are a classy lot.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Tamils have to be faithful to Sri Lanka as all of us. If one has opted to be Canadian, American, British, Australian, New Zealander, Norwegian, German,French, Swiss or other don’t interfere with Sri Lankan affairs unless invited to. Sri Lanka doesn’t need meddlers from outside unless they are an asset. It’s now that we need all the brains to rebuild the damage caused by the terrorists & if you can’t help, stay away!! Let me close on a lighter note by relating a quip I heard when I moved to Paris, it goes ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-God made France & found that it was too perfect & to balance it off He made the French!!ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I wonder whether God made Sri Lanka & found it too perfect & he brought in some Tamils!! My Tamil friends, itƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s just for laughs & not to be taken on first degree please & neither the French people who I like very much. I wish His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka & its brave people a new dawn of peace & prosperity.
