Venomous Article in the Times Today

Dear Sir / Madam,
I wish to bring to your attention the article which appeared today in the Times, by your Asia correspondent, Jeremy Page, titled “The defeat of the Tigers is welcome, but the conduct of the war is not” ( http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/guest_contributors/article6329468.ece ), is filled with venomous content and is not based on any verified substance. This is an article with the worst kind of intent that Sri Lanka, at this time of reconciliation and peace-initiation, does not need. Also, many comments that criticize the writings in the article have been deleted.

The article clearly indicates a pent-up hatred within the writer towards Sri Lanka, and he calls for the ‘boycott’ of Sri Lankan products, among other things. A journalist’s personal vendetta against someone or something should not be allowed to be published in public journals, specially in esteemed ones such as yours. A call for a boycott of Sri Lankan products should be done, if at all, by the government of your country, and only after a thorough investigation. Jeremy Page has obviously been highly influenced by pro-terrorist- Tamil expatriates who propagate falsified information for their benefit (I have attached an article that I wrote about this to show how easy it is to influence a headline-hungry journalist by lies).

I would thank you very much to advise the Editors who approve articles such as this for international comsumption, to adhere to ethical journalistic standards, especially when critisizing an independent democracy.

Thanking you,
Yours Sincerely,
Lakmal W. BotejU Ph. D.,
