ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Editor (Letters) THE OTTAWA CITIZEN

Sir:

Although not reported in The Ottawa Citizen the news has reached me that the Canadian High Commission in Colombo had been vandalized by an angry mob, and I am saddened an angry at this event.

I had condemned the act of vandalism when the Sri Lankan Consulate Office in Toronto was attacked twice by the angry Tamil Tiger sympathizing demonstrators recently, and likewise I will condemn profusely this attack of our Mission in Colombo.

Over stepping the boundaries of international agreements by the locals should not be tolerated by the Sri Lanka Government and they should rein in the culprits immediately and walk them through the due process of the law and heighten the security of our Mission premises.

As a Sri Lankan Canadian of Sinhalese origin, permit me to say to High Commissioner Angela Bogdan and her staff that I am vilified by this vandalism and wish to say “Sorry” on behalf of like minded Canadian-Sri Lankans.

Asoka Weerasinghe
