Dear Prof. Alston:

With all due respect to you, I am not being facetious when I tell you that I had a garrulous laugh with my stomach doing somersaults when I read that you had identified Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s forensic report of the Channel 4 video as not being impartial because a Sri Lankan expert, even though he is well qualified andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ had been attached to foreign institutions, reported on it. My only conclusion is that, this wasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ purely because he happened to have a brown complexion.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I know you would deny it, but you might find it hard to convince me otherwise.

Having lived abroad for the past 53 years in two Western continents and having gained my academic qualifications from three reputable Universities in the West, I know what you mean.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  As we Asian students always remarked when we had to compete with Caucasian students, even at graduate level ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…”

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Always White is right, but if you are Brown you are being frowned, and if you are Black, they will hold you backƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We were not too far wrong with that assessment.

You will have to excuse Sri Lanka as she has been quite slow in learning theseƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ “if you are white you are alright and if you are brown you will drown”” facts Professor.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I am sure Mr. Siri Hewawitharana would have willing played this identity game with a letterhead noting that he is indeed Sir Hugh Withan.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The letterhead could have certainly identified Sir Hugh with an inset of a cameo portrait dropped on the left top corner of the letterhead, with his face painted in Milton shoe-white.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  After all Sir. Hugh Withan sounds like a ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ la-dee-da British person, isnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t he not?

I am sure that would have satisfied the famous Professor Philip Alston who would have accepted the forensic report of the Channel 4 video by Sir. Hugh Withan without even batting his eye lid once.

It is about time that Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights, Mahinda Samarasinghe understand the subtleties of these insidious games of western superiority and go along playing this game of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-White snakes up the ladder -ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Brown lions pull the snakes down the ladderƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.

This would be fun, wouldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t you think so?

Sincerely

Asoka WeerasingheƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

I feel that people like the good old uncle Phil are actually doing some good for the downtrodden black/brown people of this world. Unlike in the past there are many, like Asoka, who are now willing to challenge the crap (pardon my French) coming from the holy mouths of these white masters. The more statements they make more people will be convinced of the treacherous intentions of these people who have successfully taken the opressed people of this world for a ride for such a long time. We should encourage these clowns to make more and more statements – a great way to expose their hidden agendas.

I don’t think Prof Alston’s problem has anything to do with his colour. Let’s get real, there are as many browns who are not so smart as there are whites – colour is not the issue. The problem with the good Professor is that he seems not to have given much thought to what he said. For someone working for the UN his language is not exactly diplomatic.

  3. gdesilva Says:

Cassandra, if you read Alston’s statement carefully, it states that he does not believe that the investigations are impartial. Why not? All investigations published are from Sri Lankan or Sri Lankan expatriates which means he is not prepared to accept their expertise and findings as impartial. Now tell me why this is so if colour of the skin was not a problem for Alston. You are also of the opinion that ‘[Alston] seems not to have given much thought to what he said’. If he is a person who does not think before he opens his mouth, tell me Cassandra, how did he get his ‘Professor’ title and how did he get his position with the UN? If he is a person who just cannot think before he opens his big mouth the only title he deserves is ‘Idiot’ and nothing else – let’s call spade a spade, shall we?
