The above exhibition is to be held for the 14th, successive year organized by D.H. Ariyaratna FGA, DGA, FGS. a British qualified gemmologist T/A Sri Lanka Gems. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr.D.H. Ariyaratna, who has written many books on the subject of gems and the gem industry of Sri Lanka, has 39 years experience in his profession. The sixth edition of his book ‘Gems of Sri Lanka’ (English version) has now been published. This book has been favorably reviewed by the Gemmological Association of G.B. (Gem ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”AƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢) in their journal in July/October issue 2006. This book has also been approved by the Educational Publication Advisory Board (Education Department) as a school library book.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 7pm on both days. The unusual feature of this yearƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s exhibition is the souvenir brochure (available free of charge) which contains around 40 advertisements.

The exhibition is arranged into 6 units comprising geology, gem mining, gem cutting and polishing, gemstone, jewellery and education. Around 60,000 coloured gemstones including some diamonds will be on display at the exhibition. They are mainly seen at the gemstone unit. It is noted that some jewellery available in the jewellery unit has been exclusively made for the exhibition. Entrance for adults is ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£6.00. Your entrance ticket enters you into the draw and the lucky winner will receive a blue sapphire worth around ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£100.00 or a piece of jewellery to the same value. On this promotional exhibition of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Island of GemsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ all visitors are given a free souvenir brochure at the entrance along with a sample gemstone of sapphire weighing over quarter of a carat or around two carat weight of moonstone /topaz /spinel / or a garnet [May be Your Birth stone! ]. The estimated retail value of the sapphire or 4 semi-precious stones is ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£15.00.There is no entrance fee for children up to 12 years of age who must be accompanied by an adult. Furthermore all visitors are given light refreshment, a tea and biscuits. At the gemstone unit you may be able to get your own gemstone and jewellery tested and a valuation absolutely free of charge. This year’s exhibition has been improved and designed for teachers, students, gem and jewellery dealers, jewellery designers, mineralogists, geologists and other professional people as well as the general public.
