UNO is an anachronism, and does not serve any more the purpose for which it was established.

United Nations Organisation ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-had been ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- a symbol of equality and Unity ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Nations of the World. But to-day the UN does not symboliseƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  eitherƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the Unity or the equality of Nations.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The developed countries dominate the World Forum and the Chief Executive the Secretary General ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of the UNOƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  is only a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- puppet ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- of the rich Nations, who areƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  determined to use the UNO for their political strategy to dominate the world.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The United Nations representing ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Nations of the World is nominally , the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Forum to settle conflicts, encouragingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  dialogue between NationsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  avoiding armed confrontation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  But despite the UNO, AmericaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  declared war against Iraq, hanged in ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-publicƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  itsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Head of State and continues a warƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  allegedly to eliminate the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Al Qaeda terrorists.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The powerful Nations have no concern for the UN and aggresses and takes covert action of all sorts against developing Nations, who are nevertheless, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ members of theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  UNO with equal rights.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Despite the UNO- the forum of world Nations, the developed Nations other than being Members of the UN, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ run parallel Administrative Organs to control and take punitive actions against developing Nations by way ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  withdrawal of special trade concessions and imposingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  trade embargos, making reports discrediting governments on hearsay evidenceƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to US Congress Committees.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Thus the rich and developed countries have ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ reduced the UNO to a banal talk shop, a biannual meeting place to ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ make resounding speeches of hope and glory by World Leaders.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  UNO is no more what it was meant to be when its founding fathers with all sincerity ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ launched it with the hope of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ make it a forum for Nations to debate and find solutionsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to make ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the world a safe and peaceful place for the humanity.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The UNO was recognised by all Nations as an Organisation of consultation for settlement of conflicts avoiding armed confrontation. America should not have gone to war in Iraq without the approval of the UN Security Council.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  If the UNO was meant to stop conflicts between Nations, the US State DepartmentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  should not be taking unilateral action to control nuclear ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ proliferation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It should been referred to the UNO, as a decision making body for world affairs to establish peace and harmonyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  among the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Nations of the World, to take up the matterƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  directly with errant nations andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to be debated in itsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  respective Committees.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If UNOƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  is the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ recognised Organisation ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  its Member States, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ a Forum for NationsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to come togetherƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  and decideƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  collectively ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ before ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ anyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  action is taken by one Member State ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ against another, America as a Member State of the UNO should not ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ threaten Iran or North Korea with consequence of war ifƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  they continue with their nuclear programmes.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ That issue should be debated even before aƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  meeting of the Security Council is calledƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to decideƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  punitive actionƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  against Iran or North Korea for continuingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  its nuclear programme.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ButƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  as it is UNO is skipped over by America to take unilateral decisions against a Member State.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  President ObamaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s America while denouncing the Bush Administration for going to war with Iraq, pursues the same hackneyed old ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ dangerousƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  methods of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the Bush Administration, to stop Iran from continuing its nuclear programme.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If USA, Russia, France, China, India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons, why should America go all out to stop Iran developing a nuclear weapons in its turn.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  What is the difference between Iran and other Nations who haveƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  developedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  nuclear weapons ?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is time for America and its European allies to decide whether they want the UNO to continue for the purpose for which it was established or leave it to take ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ their own unilateral decision against member states and suffer the consequences.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ No Government would subjugate their sovereignty without making an attempt to defend itself.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  A time may come when all those countries that do not toe the American and EuropeanƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  line mayƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  unite to rise against them. In such an event even a nuclear warfare cannot be ruled out.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The election of the Heads of UNO, and its sister Organisations such as UNESCO are a mockery of democratic principles.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It is the rich countries who get a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-puppetƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ candidate appointed to the Organisation, by political manoeuvres to win overƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  smallerƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  member state to vote for theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-puppetƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ selected by them.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Therefore, the more qualified and suitable candidates put forward by poorer countries are voted out in the first few round of voting.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The UNO has set up itsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Commission of human rights, and the present High Commissioner does not take any objective and independent decisions.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We have seen it happening recently in ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Geneva, where the UN HCHR, was working hand in hand with the powerful Member States of the West who were making an all out effort to discredit the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ government of Sri Lanka and accuse its armed forces forƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  war crimes, simply because itƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  eliminated the ruthless group of terrorists, with whom they Western Countries were conniving to break up Sri Lanka.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ When the High Commissioner found thatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the aims of the anti-Sri Lanka Western Member States were foiled, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Navi Pillai the UNHigh Commissioner for Human Rights went all out to ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ call for another vote to over rule the decision of the Human Rights Council.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The UNO should be an organisation of Nations where they help each other, and take concerted decisions ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ help and develop the poorer nations, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and settle conflicts .ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The UNO looses its right to exist as an ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Organisation of the Nations of the World ifƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- junior official ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- of the Organisation are allowed to make individual statements against a member State.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Any criticism ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  a member state should normally be made to theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  UNO and placedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  before a special General Assembly or a Committee of the Organisation ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ called to debate on ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the matter to ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ settle it, and any statements pertaining to the subject of criticism should be issued by the Secretary General.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Security Council should be the ultimateƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  resort for any serious decision to be taken against a member state.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ UNO cannot serve any useful purpose as long as the powerful Member States have their own Agenda. As it is,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  they are there to use the UNOƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to serve their own political ends.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The powerful nations are not interested in the welfare and development ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the smaller member states seeking the help of the richƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to rise out of their poverty or underdevelopment, but they are interested in setting up their political strategies to maintain their political leadership among Nations.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We have seen it happening ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in Chile, where ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ America used ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ CIA operations ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to organise manifestations ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and a military coup against its first Democratically ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ elected President Salvador Allende, and set up the Western ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-puppetƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ Augusto Pinochet the Military Commander , as the President of Chile.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ America was determined to oust Allende, whom they called a pro ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Soviet Communist. His close friendshipƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  with ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Cuban leader Fidel Castro did not please them either. It is said that the CIA spent over one million Dollars for the Anti AllendeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  propaganda Campaign, and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to aidƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  his opponents.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ (In the light of this, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ can we accept ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ that Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu and Jehan Perera went to meet OƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢Blake at the American State Department for nothingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ?)

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We saw ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ unilateralƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  action taken by America against Cuba in 1961 with the failed ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Bay of Pigs Invasion. AnotherƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  one of the CIA operations. It tried ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to use ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ these same tactics ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ again in ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Tiamenan in China, but failed.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  All that, while the UNO which had been set up to settle conflicts between Nations stood helplessly inactive.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ America was out to rid the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ developing Nations with their forward looking ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ progressive National leaders.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  asƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  far back as in 1950s. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Jacobo Arbenz ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ President of Guatamala, and Mossadegh the Prime Linister of Iran were ousted by CIA Operations.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The powerful Nations are again back on theirƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-war pathƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ against developing Nations.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ All the while ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ these nefarious activities of American CIA were going on, UNO ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ remained ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ a silent observer ?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ UNO has become an Organisation of inaction, the Secretary General merely parroting the words of the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ powerful nations.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The rich Member States ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ disregardingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the UNO continue to create chaos in ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ smallerƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Member States.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  UNO wakes up only when the powerful Nations accuses a developing Nation,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  not to defend it, but to join with the powerful nations to accuse the developing nation in its turn.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lanka is a case study of the powerful states moves to break up developing countries andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  use them for their political end.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean, is a country with a high percentage of literacy and aƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  skilful population. It has all the potentials to rise above its underdevelopment to become a self sufficient Nation. It ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ would be able to stand proudly along with the Nations ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of the rest of the world despite its ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-sizeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, and contribute for the peace and development of the World.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Unfortunately, to-day the Western Powers have become ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ dangerous ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- terroristsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ against the developing countries. In Sri Lanka while the terrorists openly declared their intention to break up theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  country to set upƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  an Eelam State, the Western NationsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  carry out undercover operationsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  for the same purpose.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ development was hampered by a group of terrorists that had been trained by the RAW of the Indian Government and sent to Sri Lanka in the early 1980s.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  This band of terrorists continued a campaign of terrorƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  assassinating all their opponents, and government officials.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  They were financially assisted by a large expatriate Tamil community .ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  With the funds providedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  by the expatriate Tamils the terrorists built a strong armed force.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ They were helped by a former Prime Minister of Sri Lanka with a CFA which enabled them to strengthen their military capabilities.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  These terrorists were utilised byƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  an interested group of Western Countries such as the USA, UK, France, Germany, and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Canada, with Norway as their ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-anchor manƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ to be in secret contact with the terrorists.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Their object was to use the LTTE terrorists to break up Sri Lanka and use itsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  strategic position for their political leadership, and use it as a barrier against China and Russia.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  With that objective they manoeuvred from the beginning to discourage the military operations against the terrorists by the Sri Lanka Government, insisting that the government should negotiate for a political settlement.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The terrorists became moreƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ruthless massacringƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  innocent people and assassinatingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  politicians .ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  They were finally banned as a terrorist organisation in 33 countries around the world.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Despite the terrorists of Sri Lanka being ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ band , the USA and the European Countries, secretly assisted the terrorists to continue terrorism, to arrive at theirƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  object of breaking up Sri Lanka following their new policy ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of Balkanisation as another form of colonization to keep the poor nations poor, and for the powerful nations to lead the world in theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  guise of benefactors of developing nations.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ However, the Sri Lanka Armed Forces determined to endƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  terrorism in Sri Lanka, which had hampered its development for thirty years, conducted a systematic,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  disciplined, humane military operations against the terrorists and eliminatedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  terrorism completely by killing the terrorist leadership in a final military operation on the 19th May,2009.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ For the first timeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  a small nation-ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  that is Sri Lanka, vanquished ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ terrorism, while the powerful Nations are still embroiled in their attempt to eliminate terrorism they have vowed to do.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  But their war against Talibans and Al Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan continues without an end in sight.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This great feat of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces againstƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  terrorism should have been applauded and Sri Lanka Government and its Armed Forces felicitatedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  by all peace loving Nations of theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  World, and specially by those ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ intelligent powerful Nations.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But what happened is the opposite.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The International Community have changed rolls and treat theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Government of Sri Lanka and its armed Forces the terrorists, andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the terrorists and their sympathisers the innocent victims of the Governments military operations against terrorism.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This hypocrisy of the West the USA, UK, France, Norway and the rest will remain the most heinous political crime against a developing Nation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  On the 11 September, 2001, the world changed. The West took arms against terrorism vowing to fight terrorism any where it exists. But paradoxically ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ on the 19 May, 2009 the same West, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ changed againƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  vowing ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ this time to take Sri Lanka Armed Forces that successfully eliminatedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ruthless terrorism from its soil, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to a tribunal accused of war crimes !!!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ UNO being what it is, we understand why the President Mahinda Rajapakse preferred to send his Prime Minister to the UNGeneral Assembly.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Even then the Secretary General Ban Ki Moon meeting the Prime Minister hadƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- underlined the importance of winning the trust and confidence of the population in the North, especially those in the IDP camps, as failure to do so could undermine the prospects for reconciliationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. These ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ are theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  words of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Robert OƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢Blake, which Ban Ki Moon had shamelessly repeated.
