SUSPECTED TAMIL PTOTESTERS BARGE INTO NEW DELHI SRI LANKA HIGH COMMISSION ON A PUBLIC HOLIDAY AND DAMAGE SOME PROPERTY

A group of around ten out of forty protestors chanting slogans scaled a wall and damaged some property of the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi on a holiday when no officials of the mission was available police sources said.

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-We deeply regret this unfortunate incident which has involved an act of violence against a diplomatic missionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, the external affairs ministry said later.

The Ministry said ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Action as prescribed by the law will be taken against the perpetrators of this incident.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

First Secretary of the mission said they had taken up the matter with the New Delhi police and the External Affairs Ministry.

The protesters identified only as Tamils after scaling a wall had smashed up about ten to fifteen flower pots.

The Police said before the police could arrest them they had fled.

“It is difficult to confirm who they were, but we believe they are from an anti-Sri Lankan government lobby group based in Tamil Nadu,” Sugeeswera Gunaratne, first secretary at the mission, was quoted having told a news agency.

Security has been beefed up around the mission now.
