A Sri Lankan

Earlier they blamed Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe for consecutive election ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ defeats this time they should blame the combination of political parties for the debacle.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  When the JVP 3%, TNA 6%, UNP 45% , Muslim Congress 1%, and Mano Ganeshan 1% and Former President Mrs Bandaranaike ( well over 50% of SLFP votes) when combined the opposition should have recorded 56% to 107% of votes.

They should realize that when ever they get the support of Mr. Mano Ganeshan, Mr. Rauf Hakeem , Mrs.C. Bandaranayake, Mr. Sambandan with TNA and the support of JVP they are at a loss. Never enlist the support of these elements in future for any elections please. The atrocities committed in the past thirty years by the UNP and the past activities of TNA/LTTE and the suffering under went by the public under thier influence due to their activities has created a situation that Sri Lankan voters never allow them to regain power in this beautiful nation.
Voters think and consider that there are no dead bodies along the roads now, there are no bomb blasts on a daily basis country is developing at a rapid rate why should they change the regime for a murderous clique to ruin this nation. As long as those individuals and parties contest elections the opposition will not regain power to rule this nation.
Whether we like or not the public would not give them a chance for severalƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ decades as they remember the hardships underwent by the public due to thierƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ atrocities. LTTE should also realize that there is no room for violence and seperatism in democratic Sri Lanka as long as presently elected government is ruling with the support of voters. International community should respect the verdict given by the people living in Sri Lanka. TNA and the Tamil diaspora ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ should now give up separatism and try to reconciliation with the voters of Sri lanka as they failed in thier last attempt to create trouble in Sri lanka.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Voters will not leave room for the opposition to elect a governmentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  for several decades as long as they do not understand the aspirations of the peace loving Sri Lankans of all ethnicities. Younger generation has rejected the opposition, therefore the future chances of the opposition parties seem to be very bleak.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ They themselves will have to take the responsibility.
Election commissioner actually wanted UNP to win the election. If there were any irregularities he would not have released the results. It the fault of government to keep an officer of such law level of moral standing as the election commissioner. Government officers do not talk about their personal grievances, illness etc. when they declare election results and he has forgotten that he is speaking to the international community representing Sri Lanka. Slightest problem and irregularity in voting he can withhold releasing results. He released the results as there were no irregularities.
There were no incidences of rigging reported. It is essential to produce the national identity card at this election. Name should be there in the electoral list. General also could not vote as his name was not there in the electoral list. One of the candidates called Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne could not vote in the first attempt as he did not produce a national ID. Later on he contacted the election commissioner and special permission was given to vote after clarifying his ID. This election had so many security features to prevent any malpractices. All the boxes were sealed and special tapes were used prior to the transport. Counting officers see whether the security features are intact prior to counting.
Provisional results and copies of results were given to the representatives of candidates prior to add them into the computers. It is extremely difficult to make even one or two votes difference to the overall results. There is no room what soever to rig an obtain a 1.8 Million difference in present day elections in SriLanka.
High (74.49%) voter turn out makes it almost impossible to rig an election. It is time for the individuals and organisation to stop further insulting our nation on false allegations, in-fact they should see why they were actually defeated in order to correct thier mistakes and face the next election. By issuing such statements they become law grade , third class ,low IQ idiots in-front of the intelligent voters in Sri Lanka.
