Educated but misguided eccentric!(a reply to article on TamilNet, Thursday, 18 February 2010)

L Peiris

When will eccentric idiots like Rev. Prof. Dr. S.J. Emmanuel, the former Vicar General of the Catholic diocese of Jaffna just fade away! TNA leaders Sampanthan, Mavai Senathirajah, Suresh Premachandran, Selvam Adaikalanathan and Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam are over the hill, their ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”sell byƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ date has expired, like their Eelam dreams.

Sri Lanka is one unitary nation and will be so till the end of time. Any Sri lankan seeking to divide this nation with ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”separate stateƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ and ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”homeland conceptsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ will be dealt the same fate that was given to LTTE terrorist vermin. The greatest event of 2009 was to wipe out the LTTE maniac despot and murderous suicide bombers and if you accept them as leaders you are nothing but scum on earth. Kith and kin in the free diaspora mainly asylum seekers can shout at the top of their voices on behalf of LTTE remnants but it is best for you to remember ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Wellamulli WaikalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. That is how Sri Lanka will treat any traitors of our nation.

As a catholic priest you are a disgrace to the Catholic Church. People like you should remove their cassocks and take up your Tamil cause because as a priest you are there to liberate and help sinners not journey with suicide bombing Tamil terrorists.

In Sri Lanka it is futile to expect a Tamil government. 54% of the Tamil population in Sri Lanka live and work among the Sinhala and other communities in the south. After 30 long years Sri Lankans (Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and others) can walk the roads without fear of getting blown up by your former LTTE comrades. It is criminals like you hiding behind a cassock and preach nothing but the gospel of hatred that use the human rights to further your own personal goals. Ask yourself how many church buildings were built in the North and East during the past 30 years with all the NGO funds? Ask the Bishop of Jaffna (who was also a LTTE stooge) how many churches have been built and restored after eliminating the LTTE vermin in the past few months?

Why do people like you spell out the genuine grievances and basic human rights of the Tamil people without generalising! Did you not get the right to be born, the right to medical facilities, the right to a free education, the right to become a priest in Sri Lanka! or did you become a priest just to have savour the benefits of the Catholic church and use the cassock to leave Sri Lanka and get asylum in a foreign land.

The Tamil people in Sri Lanka are free to live and work as Sri Lankans. However they will have to forget stupid dreams for a separate state of Tamil Eelam within Sri Lanka. The heroic sacrifices of the Sri Lankan people and the gallant armed forces of our land under the great leadership of President Rajapakse in eliminating LTTE terrorists and terrorism from our nation will never be forgotten.

The Diaspora Tamils, the kith and kin of those in Sri Lanka, having the freedom to speak up, can do all they can but we Sri Lankans do not care a damn for them or for LTTE remnants like you barking like a dog at a mountain.

mike, why do you keep writing the same reply to every article? You might say that it is not my business but I think it has become a mattter of concern of many readers of the Lankaweb.

Dear Mr.Peiris, one should read Tamilnet only as a form of entertainment. Normally it carry deep hatred and vengence of a mans heart. The wordings and photos are craftly placed to mislead readers in so called Western countries. If you need further entertainment, one could read DBS Jayaraj in Transcurrents. His jaundiced journalism is solely directed at discrediting Sri Lanka. His recent article was questioning the validity of Sri Lankan Presidential election. These hacks still have a wide but dwindling readership. They can still harm Sri Lanka.

    Aravinda:
your observation is correct. TamilNet and Transcurrents are “one way Traffic”. DBS never publish any comments critical of his writtings. No comments are accepted by TamilNet.

But both try to spread messages of Church. Once TamilNet published an article in diffence of a Tamil Prof. who raped a servant girl of 14 years old. He was known as Pongu Thamil Ganesalingam. All TNA lawyers tried to save the culprit.

This TamilNet published a fake information in diffence of Ganeshalingam. In that article TamilNet said the girl(victim) was a prostitute. DBS never touched the subject.

I am wondering why the Sinhala Catholics/Christians keep silence about their Tamil counterparts, specially against the Bishops like Rayappu of Mannar. These Catholic bishops were the first religious group went to the IDP camps to give “spritual directions” to the IDPs. I am wondering how can the Sinhala speaking Bishops except Rayappu could give “spritual Guidance” to a population of 100% Tamil speaking and 90 % Hindu?

The Bishops too question the validity of the Presidential election and DBS too does the same!

It is an interesting article touching on the need to know the full meaning of different words to fully understand their behaviour. The words we utter, the acts we do and the restraints we maintain, truly reflect our character as a human. As a Sinhala supporter, I used to go to Tamil Net for a while as part of some work to gain an understanding and to verify their attitude (including DBSJ BS webpage). After that I made my conclusion realising who they were and what they stood for. Tamils are Tamils by virtue of being associated with the word Tamil, as it represents an adaptation of human behaviour to a set of rules and values that define upbringing an living of a person born to Tamil society. I happen to come across some of the key rules and values that guide them and have ever since being reluctant even to refer to the word Tamil. Having said that, we do not need more than the word Tamil to make our judgements in accordance with our own rules and values. I do not think that we should waste time on some thing or being that should be totally rejected. Those who call Tamils choose to be Tamils, not others.

I am a bit curious about the comments made by “mike”, (apparently living in Australia). I wish you are not a Buddhist priest. Only Buddhists have the capacity to ignore all evil and see the good in evil. They are also capable of preaching like you and to extend good wishes to any one from the best from one end to the worst on the other end. Whether it is an advanced intellectual idea or a pathetic ignorance displayed with regard to such a diverse spectrum of humanity is a matter of judgement based on individual convictions. Having gone around beating the bush, let me tell straight to you that your ideas are very good for Never Land or some other place unknown to me. As humans living on this planet, we have to behave as if we live on this planet which has its own natural rules and values. As a believer of life and living longer, I could agree to you only if I am on hallucinative drugs. There may be people who would even extend their good wishes to people like Vellupillai according to their strong religious, social or political beliefs. But for me it does not work that way. Probably, I could be the only one who wished him and his descendents to disappear into thin air long before the actual events leading to his demise. This was based on some real reasons and a few of you might know why I wished so.

I think it is time for us to free up from all our anchors of life and free up our mind to see what is happening around us as natural human beings. Then the solutions to all our problems are plentiful. Unfortunately, we use many words to lay out our ideas without knowing the original meaning of these words. Let me finish my comment by saying that there are certain questions that make you to choose between yes or no, where the answer is good enough to decide the life or death. If we had a good understanding of words that we use, and acted accordingly, this world is a more humane habitat for the living. Why none of you question about how Tamils happened to be living among Sinhala? Why are there Buddhists, Christians, Hindus and Muslims? Why those who claim to be Sinhala do not have what it makes a person to be Sinhala (Sorry, I think I can talk only about Sinhala as it is the only reference made to in my birth certificate).

    MIKE:
YOU ANSWERED WHY MANY TAMILS KEPT SILENCE. LTTE KILLED EVERYONE WHO OPENED THEIR MOUTH. IN THAT SCENARIO, PEOPLE IN THE NORTH AND EAST RAN FOR THEIR LIVES.

SINHALESE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE LTTE FOR THIRTY LONG YEARS.

I AM A HINDU TAMIL AND RAN TO ESCAPE FROM THE LTTE WHO KILLED MANY OF MY FRIENDS. DID ANY GOVERNMENT OF SRI LANKA TRY TO PAY COMPENSATION TO THE LTTE VICTIMS?

THE WORSE WAS THE LTTE WAS GIVEN ANOTHER-LIFE ALWAYS BY THE UNP GOVERNMENTS. CATHOLIC CHURCH PRAISED THE LTTE AS THE DIVINE SOLDIERS OF CHRIST. HOW MANY SINHALESE QUESTION UNP OR CATHOLIC/CHRISTIAN CHURCHES FOR THEIR SUPPORT FOR LTTE EVEN TODAY?

I HAVE NO PROBLEM IN SPEAKING OR WRITTING BOTH TAMIL AND SINHALA.

I NEVER ACCEPTED ANY “TAMIL” OR “SINHALA” BASED POLITICS IN MY LIFE. I STILL PRAISE S.W.R.D. BANADARANAYAKE FOR HIS PATRIOTIC FEELINGS AND THE MEASURES HE TOOK TO SOLVE THE LANGUAGE PROBLEMS. ONCE I WAS A MEMBER OF THE SLFP. I HOPE I WILL RETURN TO MY OLD BASE IN THE FURTURE.
