LTTE lethal weapons still unearthed

In the backdrop of the country getting ready to celebrate the first year anniversary of the defeat of the LTTE lethal weapons buried by the outfit are still being unearthed from the North and the East according to the ArmyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s media unit.

Sri Lanka Army troops continued clearing operations have uncovered more LTTE military hardware hidden in Vavuniya,Mannar,Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu districts yesterday (01 May), military sources said.

Troops of 56 Division, while conducting a search and clear operation in general area Mathiyamadu in Vavuniya district recovered 02 x locally made weapons. In general area Periyapandivirichchan East, troops of 61 division uncovered an anti personnel mine. Troops in Mannar district found 04 x unexploded ordnance ( UXO) during a clearing operation conducted at Narikkulam area.

Further, troops belong to 57 division recovered 14 x anti personnel mines during a clearing operation conducted at Iranamadu area in Kilinochchi district. Separately, 59 division troops operating at general area Kumulamunai in Mullaittivu district unearthed 06 x anti personnel (Rangan 99) mines during a search and clear operation conducted.

Meanwhile, following military items were uncovered by the 68 Division troops, during clearing operations conducted at Puthukkudiyirippu East and Vellamulivaikkal areas in Mullaittivu district on same day (01 May) sources further added.
