Sir:

Your report ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”CharityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s status revoked over aid to Tamil TigersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ most certainly renewed my faith in the Canadian Revenue Agency for finally catching up with Tamil charities that sneakily collected funds for the separatist war in Sri Lanka and funded the Tamil Tigers.

Most of the money collected by the Tamil (Sri Lanka) Refugee-Aid Society of Ottawa went directly to the Chandiukulum Village, which was the home of the Tamil Tiger naval base for the Sea Tigers, the terrorists naval wing.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That should have given the Canadian Revenue Agency enough reason to suspect the intention of this charity.

Tamil charities mushroomed in 1995 just after the Tsunami and most of them were fronts for the Tamil Tigers, and their intentions wereƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ cleverly masked by having Roman Catholic Tamil priests associated with the charity as did this one in Ottawa with Rev. Philip Ratnapala as a Director. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ That has always been their master-plan as did the Tamil Roman Catholic Church back in Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s north.

With this unfortunate experience, I will not blame the good and big hearted Canadians for being cautious of opening their wallets to help Sri Lanka from now on.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  This is unfortunate as Sri Lanka’s sick, poorƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and the hungry should not be penalized because of a fewƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  misguided errant Tamil charities.

    Hey Asoka:

I always enjoy your letters to the various Canadian Newspapers – trying to set them straight on what is going on in Sri Lanka. You have my regards. However, you are dead wrong on the timing of the Tsunami. The Tsunami happened on boxing day of 2004 and not in 1995. I know because I was on the ground in Sri Lanka trying to help with the recovery effort at that time.

    Cheers!!!!!!!!!!
