ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Dear Hon.Vic Toews
Minister of Public Safety’
Canada
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
We like to thank you for sending a strong message to the world. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Canada is now known as a haven for terrorist activities particularly Toronto. Words alone will not convince anyone.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We think Toronto is fast becoming well-known to be a city that attracts terrorists.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
AsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lankan born Canadians who belong to the Sinhalese community we feel any reference toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lankan migrants is painting all Sri Lankans with the same brush. Sri Lankan- Sinhalese community is not involved in terrorist activities and are law abiding citizens .
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Could we please be clear in your communications to say the Migrants are Sri Lankan Tamils.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Sri Lankan -Sinhalese community are reluctant to speak up as they fear for their personal safety, particularly in Toronto as they do not want to get entangled with the Tamil Tiger movement who areƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ known to be ruthless.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Here are some facts for your consideration.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
- The Tamil migrants have started their journey most likely from Indonesia, Malaysia or India and NOT from Sri Lanka.
- They suffer no threat in Sri Lanka and travel in and out of it without any problems. In fact they collected enough money and flew or sailed to the Malaysian area and then joined these people-smuggling ex-LTTE ships to attempt to immigrate to an affluent western country.
- They are not “fleeing persecution and genocide” – they are economic immigrants sponsored by ex-LTTE Tamil groups catering only to Tamils, and abusing the humanitarian laws of Canada.
- Some of them may be wanted by the SriLankan government for previous Terrorist activities, and if so, Canada too should be very careful of admitting such people via the “refugee” ploy.
- A majority of Tamils ( over 1 million) live in Sinhala-majority areas, and all citizens, irrespective of their ethnicity have exactly the same political and civic rights, including parity of status for Sinhala and Tamil language. Here note that according to the CIA-fact book only about 5% of the population are Sri Lankan Tamils. Yet there are more than 10% Tamil-speakingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ MPs in the Sri Lankan parliament.
- The US, UK and the European union have declared that Sri Lanka is now a safe destination free of conflict.
- Informed observers (e.g., ex-ambassador www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20100812/refugee-system-tamils-canada-100812/“Martin Collacotte, and www.lankaweb.com/news/items09/180409-3.html the McKenzie Institute )ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ have recognized that the Tamils in Canada are using the “fleeing from persecution” claim for getting into Canada by beating the legal route.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
We thank you sincerelyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and hope you find a resolutionƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to this ugly situation which is tainting Sri Lanka – as a nationƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Canada – for leaving our doors wide open for terrorists.
