Sri Lankan people seeking refuge in affluent countries falsely alleging discrimination, persecution, rape, murder etc. to get sympathy of host countries, has become a common occurarnce.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These assylum seekers and their supporters go on a Sri Lanka bashing spree causing inestimable damage to our country’s reputation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ As a result, our countryƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ runs the risk of being brandedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as a ‘Pariah state’ in many quarters.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ They haveƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ contributed toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ certain countries or groups of countries lifting trade priviledges which were were afforded to us.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Thus they should be treated as traiters to our country and having them here isƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ detrimentalƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ our interests.

Taking the above factors into consideration, I suggest that anyone who want to leaveƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri LankaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ seeking refugee status on grounds enumerated above should not be prevented from gaining refugee status in those countries.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Instead they, as well as those who orchestrate such anti-national propaganda should be treated as traiters, their Sri Lankan citizenships stripped andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ deny entryƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to our country during their lifetime, whether they are admitted into theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ countries where they seek refuge or not.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ After all why should they return to Sri Lanka if they risk being treated as they claim?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Even if the assylum seekers are ex-LTTE cadres, it will be much better for us as it will be good riddance of bad rubbish!ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If we adopt such a course of action, and give wide publicity to it, I am sure it willƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ deter bogus assylum seekers and most importantly our country’s reputation spared!

These asylum seekers if accepted by any other country must not be given dual citizenship.

This is a very fair and good way to deter further damage to the country’s reputation by these bogus asylum seekers who having achieved their goal of foreign citzenship, they unahamedly revisit SriLanka to enjoy the hospitality of SriLankans who are at the receiving end of all these slanders and accusations. Yes such bogus asylum seekers should be banished from SrLanka and dual citizenship disallowed, unless they could prove their allegations at the time of obtaining asylum.
