AN OPEN LETTER TO MR PHILIP J CROWLEY, ASST SECY, US STATE DEPARTMENT-Mind your own business!

BY DR M D P DISSANAYAKE

Dear Mr Crowley

WeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  have read your recent announcementƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  expressing doubts over Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s democracy, on the basis of 18th amendment to the Constitution.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  First of all let me tell you quite bluntly that it is none of your or your countryƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s business to make such outbursts against an independent nation

Please read the announcements of State Department from 1965 through 1980 against Singapore and its Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Your countryƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  and the Human Rights body have constantly hammered that country when it was a poor country, like Sri Lanka. The USA calledƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Mr LKW a traitor, dictator, human rights violator, an ex communist etc.

When Mr J B Jeyaratnam of the Workers Party was put behind bars by the Government of Singapore,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the US State Department ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ was extremely angry and intended to impose sanctions on Singapore. When Peoples Action Party of Mr LKWƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  was winning all elections with massive majorities, your Government claimed that the elections were rigged.

Please open your old files of record and verify these arguments. We challenge you to open those files of records in your archives, to reflect the failures of your policies against a country that wasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  trying to rise its headƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  from the status of Poor Nation to an economically prosperous nation. If you accept this challenge, we will be very glad to respond.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We are confident thatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  you are so ashamed of policies of your contemporary governments and therefore will not accept the challenge.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Because you have got that many skeletons in your closets.

Now Singapore is not a poor country. Now Singapore is not a third world country.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Now Singapore is not a developing nation. Now Singapore is a Developed Nation, surpassing many other European countries ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ economic performances on key statistical indicators.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Now US is a close friend of Singapore.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Now US dare not complain against Singapore.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Now the US is learning social and economic lessons from a great country in Asia, that is Singapore. When your former President late Mr Ronald Regan visited Singapore, his baggage was extensively check at the VIP lounge.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The Customs Officers found several PK Chewing Gum, a favourite past-time of the Mr President.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  All Chewing Gum were thrown to the Bin by the Customs, because use or carrying Chewing Gum is prohibited in Singapore from that time until now.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That is Singapore

Mr Crowley, what was wrong with the 18th amendment?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  There is no stipulation in the amendment, that Mr Mahinda Rajapakse should be the Executive President of Sri Lanka for life. But, let me assure you that Mr Mahinda Rajapakse will be the President for life, so long as his deliverables are in line with the expectations of masses.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Not only Mr Mahinda Rajapakse, even Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe, Mr Sarath Fonseka, Mrs Chandrika Bandaranike Kumaratunge, Mr Somawansa Amerasinghe, Mr Mangala Samaraweera, they all can contest any number of times, so long as the public vote them into power.

You should now realize that Sri Lanka is not a puppet of US or western allies.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  At the same time, Sri Lanka is not an enemy of the rest of the world.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Sri Lanka has eliminated the world worst terriorsts.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  USA and Western WorldƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  have no common program to beat terrorists.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Mr Crowley, this is only the 18th amendment. It is not the end of the world.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Please wait for the 19th and 20th amendments.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Sri Lanka will do what is best for Sri Lanka, US is fast becoming irrelevant as a world power.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

In the meantime, if US can stop spreading vulgar sex moviesƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to the lounge rooms through internet, it will save the culture and natural heritage ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  countries like Sri Lanka.

The same people who tried hard to save terrorists in SL are now soooo worried about SL democracy. You have never protected Sri Lankans interest. You wolves in sheep clothes get lost. We know who you are. Leave SL alone. Please GET LOST!!

Let USA open your old files of record and verify what your Govt: had done in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam, Korea and now in Middle east and Afghanistan. Then ask the same question by yourself what right USA have to teach Sri Lanka. You better learn from Sri Lanka & other south east Asia.

Well said Dr Dissanayake. We need to excel in the economic field to get our dignity back. Our enemies will always try to keep us down. We need to industrialise Lanka so that we develop engineering skills. Never forget that India destabilised us for 30 years and prevented our progress. Now they appear to be helping only the North and the East. We need to go for self reliance in all fields, including food, energy and technical skills.
    Ben

Good on you Dr Dissanayake. You have drawn the attention of these misguided individuals that the change is not to make President Rajapakse a life President. Any SriLankan could contest and get elected as President, if the people are happy with the deliverables, two of which I am certain are the continued protection of the country’s sovereignty and neutrality.
