Libiyan Govt aid to Sri Lankan Govt must benefit all

The Libiyan government aid granted to Sri Lanka may be usurped by a group pf politicians interested solely in communal politics in the Eastern province.

The aid package originally destined for Tsunami reconstruction work is to be utilized at present for the development program of the Government in keeping with its list of priorities. This is the just expectation of the people in the Eastern province as well as all Sri Lankans.

However, similar to the proverbial rabbit overtaking the pot of curd and winning the favor of village chieftain in the well known Sinhala folk story, the recent political pole vaulters are sparing no pains to have the sole monopoly over the disbursement of the aid funds to look after their communal interest as a repayment for their skills in changing colors and sides.

There are indications that the Libiyan aid package will be used by these well known ‘jumpers’as a political football instead of assisting to channel it for the greater good of the people.

The President and the Ministers who have undertaken a gigantic plan for the economic rejuvenation to usher a period of prosperity and peace to all Sri Lankans should open their eyes to this situation, which, if not arrested will pave way for more complex issues in the disbursement of aid funds received by the country and claims of discriminating practices.

Ranjih has highlighted an important issue. USA, INDIA,NGO’s have helped Tamils. Muslim countries are helping the Muslims. I understand due to foreign help, both the Tamils and Muslims have got decent accommodation and clean water in the North and the East. The people living in extreme poverty, witrout even clean drinking water or toilets are the poor Sinhalese. Looks like no one is helping the Sinhalese and they have no voice. If foreign aid is given, then it should be distributed in a fair manner to all. If favoritism is allowed, then foreigners will use funds to create enemies within Lanka. It is time the Sinhalese thought about their welfare.

Ranjith and Ben are not addressing the real issue. According to Omalpe Sobitha Thero, there are 150,000 Sinhala families are stranded in Jaffan Railway station and in the Doraipapa stadium. They are not been allowed to return to their home in the Eastern and the Nothern provinces homes. This is because Douglas Davanada minister says that no Sinhala should be resettled before all the Tamils are resettled. Minister Milroy Fernando does not know that there are Sinhala familes camping inside the Jaffna Railway station. May be DEW Gunasekara is trying to stop Sinhala going back to Norther Province, I do not know. DEW Gunasekara has ties to Tamil Nadu. Well, shouldn’t some one inform Mr. Basil?

    Kit Athul,

    That is a seperate problem.

Both problems have to be resolved.

  4. Malinda Says:

Sri Lanka should not get aid from Libya at all.

We need to get close to Israel because they have the money. Why are me madly following the Muslim Arabs?

The Jews are so powerful and cunning we need to get close t them, don’t you think?

Forget about the miserable Palestinians and let’s crawl to Israel
