The Presidents Secretary,
Mr.Lalith Weerathunga,

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Dear Sir,

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I respectfully believe you will bring this to His Excellency The Presidents attention.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I have noticed in Sri Lankan TV news, which I religiously watch daily, the driving force behind development projects and also on day to day running of the countries affairs has become the President. ItƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s a shame to see the President has to instruct on behalf of the Ministers and other Government officers who have neglected their responsibilities in executing the capital works under them. This state of affairs cannot be repeated, itƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s time those responsible to get their acts together to see the task at hand is completed in time without any pressure from the President. I am certain all these categories are well remunerated, well then they have to perform diligently to prove their worth.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ President alone cannot perform to bring glory to the country; others too should show why they are proud to beƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lankan.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Today Australian SBS TV News item was about Asylum Seekers. Here too the absence of the President was felt by all Sri Lankans. It’s sad the President cannot be Omnipresent!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ When you open this link, immediately after the advertisement the main news starts with this Sri Lankan issue. In here Sri Lankan Ambassador was been interviewed, I felt ashamed to call him as our Ambassador, he portrayed as if he had committed a crime and been quizzed. We deserve a better Ambassador with a rigid spine. He is a disgrace to the entire Foreign Service.

A few weeks ago I made a comment about our high commissioner in Canberra when he made no effort to contact the media when some Tamil asylam seekers were on top of the detention centre roofs were saying how bad things are in Sri Lanka for the Tamils.Although it is the duty of the ministry of external affairs to pick some competent individuals for our foreign missions, the diplomats too have a duty to do their utmost to defend the good name our country or resign if they are not capable of doing so. Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya in USA is one shining example for all our diplomats for his tireless work, giving regular interviews, making contacts with influential politicians and business leaders to bring them up to date the progress made in Sri Lanka since the end of war.

I fully ( and more than) agree with Vajira and Sarath. This guy is totally useless. Not only this, he recently failed to help a Sri lankan to travel to Sri lanka when his mother passed away. He talked law and strict with rigid rules and did not bother to do anything in the weekend. The poor guy had some connection with the president’s office in Sri lanka and he had to get help from Sri lanka. Even the Australian Immigration was surprised how inefficinet this man was. Why do we have to put up with such a useless man ?

  3. dhane Says:

Even earlier so call politically appointed high commissioner in Canberra was only counting his commissions he made during Chandrika’s period and buying properties. After Janaka Perera we were left without a rigid spine
Sri Lankan Ambassador. All these fellows had made enough crimes while in Sri Lanka. Therefore they are spineless puppets.

Amidst this criticism, we should not forget some of the fine gentlemen who have served as SL’s High Commissioner in Canberra. Two of them readily come to mind – Former Justice TS Fernando, an eminent jurist, and Mr Dias Abeysinghe, a former Commissioner of Elections. They were worthy ambassadors for the Island and filled their roles with distinction.
