Art Exhibit and Sale by 86 year old resident of Enfield to benefit charities – Mayor to open exhibit

Dr. Rene Dias Weerasinha is exhibiting a collection of 64 paintings at the Dugdale Centre, Thomas Hardy House, 39 London Road in Enfield Town, from November 30th ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…”November 5th 2010.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Dr. Rene Dias Weerasinha is a retired consultant psychiatrist from Chase Farm Hospital and resides in Enfield, surrounded by several children and grandchildren. She has devoted her time to painting, reading, playing the piano and traveling for pleasure since the loss of her husband in 2005. The paintings, a collection of her work over the past 25 years have been inspired mostly from her many travel experiences.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Since her 80th birthday in 2004 Dr. Dias Weerasinha has found pleasure in traveling to many parts of the world including Japan, China, Egypt, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Europe, Scandinavia, the Baltic States, the U.S., and this past summer to the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon. Many of her paintings reflect inspiration from both her more recent travels and to her previous travel to others parts of the world including Turkey.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ A native of Sri Lanka she has lived and worked in Enfield since 1977 which she fondly considers as home. Her recent visits to Sri Lanka have inspired her to donate money from the sale of her paintings from this exhibition to 2 charities in Sri Lanka, a country affected both by an ethnic war and tsunami. Charities benefiting the exhibition include the SOS ChildrenƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Villages for orphaned children and Symphony for a Child a charity that funds hospital care for sick children.
