ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  London Victoria is one of the huge, busiest trains and underground stations. I went early and sat down near Smith Book shop to meet Saman who is coming from Paddington after visiting his relatives in Paris. The people moved in every direction, virtually like a disturbed bee hive, just after 6.00pm, Friday, after office hours. Any unoccupied mind is just like a wild horse, it’s true!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I couldn’t help looking at some beautiful body shaped young ladies, smartly dressed, walking up and down, as if they are on a cat walk then some fat or fleshy ladies and gentlemen walked pass me pulling luggage trolleys. I was thinking why some of them look as if they got sculptured body shapes and some are quite obese. When I saw someone pretty, “How’s that”, is it cricket fever?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I was wondering, how do we call someone is obese?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This is a medical condition where excess body fat is accumulated so much that may have adverse effects on the health that is leading to a few complications. In other words, when there is an extremely over weight condition it is called obese, in other simple words, more than average fatness or fleshiness. Some people describe as having an abnormally high, unhealthy amount of body fat.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Measurement of obesity

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I looked around; there was no ending to moving crowd, in every direction. One might ask is there a measurement to find obesity? A measurement called body mass index shows whether you are obese or not. This is usually applied to adults only but some people do not agree with this measurement but still BMI is done this way.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  For adults, a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than or equal to 30 is accounted as obese. It says if BMI is between 18.5 to 24.9 then itƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s quite normal and between 25.0 to 29.9 is over weight but not obese. Measuring waist circumference helps screen for possible health risks that comes with overweight and obesity. If most of your fat is around your waist rather than at your hips, youƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢re at a higher risk for heart disease and type 2 diabetes. This risk goes up with a waist size that is greater than 35 inches for women or greater than 40 inches for men.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ What diseases or problems come with obesity?

Looked at the watch, looked around, is ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ he late; from where do these people come from or where do they go? Are there any Sri Lankans in the crowd? Not quite sure.

One might ask, are there any health problems by being obese? There are too many health problems, not just one or two for example, various diseases, particularly heart disease, chest pain due to irregular blood flow also called angina, stroke or blood clot hindering the regular blood flow to the brain, type 2 diabetes or your bodyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s inability to control the blood sugar. The other severe diseases include certain types of cancer and osteoarthritis. The extra body weight due to obesity puts extra pressure on the joints such as in the knee and ankle then these wear away the cartilage (tissue that cushions the joints) that normally protects them. Weight loss may improve the symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Nearly everybody in the station appears to be moving somewhere, they all had a reason to be here but was I the only one moved very slowly any direction, looks aimless, clueless?

What do the doctors say?

One of the advices is to drink enough water for healthy reasons. What ever we eat are absorbed in liquid form so only if there is sufficient water this process can takes place.

Sweat and urine are liquid wastes and urine has uric acid, some toxins and sometimes sugars and wastes from breaking down of red blood cells. If there was not enough water or regularly excreted, urine tends to crystallise as the concentration increases.

Type 2 diabetic

When I looked at the passing crowd, I thought so some of them must be suffering from a few of these diseases. The type 2 diabetic arises due to few factors such as obesity, hypertension or high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol level in the blood. Some recent research shows that environmental toxins may contribute to recent increases in the rate of typeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 2 diabetes. A positive correlation has been found between the concentrations in the urine containing an organic compound called bisphenol A, constituent of some plastics.

Risk factors

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ There may be other factors for obesity such as hereditary or psychiatric illness but obesity is most commonly caused by a combination of excessive dietary calories such as sugar and fat in the food and drinks then lack of physical activity.

The people went pass in every direction are doing a good exercise, brisk walking but they are here to catch a train or tube, certainly not to exercise but I was wondering slowly to pass the time, to meet my friend.

School children and junk food

A bunch of school children just went pass towards the trainƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s time table that could be 60 feet long. A majority of school children had different kinds of fizzy drinks and crisps packets in hands. These fizzy drinks are loaded up with artificial sweeteners that give too much calories. On other days, some of these children must be eating too much fat; salt and colouring filled, sometimes outdated and partially cooked takeaways then wash down with fizzy drinks. In any personƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s judgements, would you think this is a healthy diet not just for school children but for any person? I am sure not healthy on regular basis.

Sometimes hundreds of people came out of the underground, just like a crowd out of Wembley football stadium, so how can I find him? I am glad I rang him to meet near this book shop. I agree that the mind sometimes behaves like an untamed wild animal. I kept on thinking!

The ways to tackle obesity

I was a little bored, waiting too long, went for a packet of crisps and a can of fizzy drinks. I knew it’s not right but occasional treat is acceptable, that was my excuse.

One can choose the correct diets and physical activity to cut down obesity. Physical activity means that you are not invited to train for the forth coming 2012 OLYMPICS IN LONDON but a regular walking is a good start. Just look at the people at this station; just walk walk, good exercise. Moreover, it is important to improve diet quality by reducing the consumption of energy-dense foods such as those high in fat and sugars, and by increasing the intake of food with lots of dietary fibres.

How much?

When you come across Sri Lankan delicacies containing salt such pickles, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Polos CurryƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, Maldives fish, dried sheer fish, you might ask me how to stop the temptation to eat. Good question. There are other things such as crisps, salted pea nuts, cashew nuts, canned and packets of soups, baked beans, pork and chicken pies, pizzas and ready meals with plenty of added salt, not forgetting cheese, bacon, sausages and plenty of other salt added food to eat so why blame Sri Lankan salted food? Salt increases the blood pressure but salt preserves food.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Any other options?

To supplement this, or in case of failure, one can use anti-obesity drugs that may be taken to reduce the appetite or inhibit fat absorption. In severe cases, the painful option is surgery that is performed or an intragastric balloon is placed to reduce stomach volume and or bowel length, leading to earlier satiation and reduced ability to absorb nutrients from food.

Liposuction

Fat deposits which cannot be removed by diet or exercise usually occur in areas such as the chin, chest, stomach, sides, back and thighs. As mentioned above, it can be removed by Liposuction. This is a fat removal procedure that aims to eradicate excessive stubborn fat from these hard to shift areas. Liposuction should be thought of as a sculpting procedure that can change the contours of your body or face.

It comes with a price tag

When you see these beautiful body shapes that look like heavenly made, am sure they come at a high cost, dedication and determination to strict diets and exercises. Ladies, if you need to see them, sometimes they walk along cat walks displaying latest fashions, also in expensive glossy magazines and costly TV adverts. Take it from me, they are everywhere, if you need to look like them, dress like them, walk like them, still need to fit into your best kits then think before you eat and drink.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ My mind wondered from one to the other as if the mind is just like a galloping wild horse. Then, I heard, “hello, what time you came in”, that was my friend, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-letƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s go”, “How was the journey”? Now my mind is occupied, oh what a relief!
