It is not fair to bury our points of view Mr.DBS.Jayraj.

Herold Leelawardena

However much we write, discuss and argue, a section of Tamil community and particularly those that come from the North do not understand what they can get and what they cannot. We know this becauseƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ we read their thoughts, feelings and judgments loud and clear throughƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ many blogs.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ With or without Piripaharan the terrorist, these people continue to demand we release a third of our land and two third of our coast line exclusively for Tamils. No doubt they would do many sting operations to get it.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Many Tamils justify the reason for this demand as Sinhala only act, standardization, riots in 83 and etc. Obviously one need not sellƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ this account toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Tamils They would buy it willingly. But other nationalsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ that do not know recent history are beingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ tricked to buy this tall tale.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ So letƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s talk the truth.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The truth is; Tamils had wanted separation long before Sinhala only act, standardization, riots in 83 and etc had taken place. A little known man called Visvalingam from Jaffna is said to have demanded separation in the nineteen twenties. DBS Jayaraj mentioned this story in one of his write-ups. But Mr.JayrajƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s aim had been contrary to mine. His attempt had been to show that there were no takers for the separation demand among Tamil community at the time. According to Jayraj separation demand befell on Tamils only afterƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sinhala only act, standardization, riots in 83 and etc.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Now we all know that it was British who ruled Sri Lanka before independence. There was no Sinhala only act, standardization, 83 riots etc under British Raj. Yet we all know that not just Visvalingam but many intellectuals and prominent Tamils like Sundaralingam had demanded separation while under British rule.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Not just in Sri Lanka but in India too Tamils demanded separation long before independence.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr.Jayaraj had made many efforts to cover-up that truth. There is another line of promotion. Mr. Jayraj has been illustrating that separation demand by Tamils started only after non-violent efforts by S.J.V.Chelvenayagam failed.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ JayrajƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s articles on satyagraha that is published in his own web site and in transcurrents and Daily Mirror stands tall in this regard.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If we talked about ChelvaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s political party ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”The Thamil Arasu KachchiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ that was formed in 1949,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr. Jayaraj stand naked on Visvalingam saga. The meaning of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Thamil Arasu KachchiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ is ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”separatist partyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. But Chelva presented it to the south as Federal Party (FP). Any right thinking person could visualize that ChelvaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s aim was separation ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and not federalismƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ for the North and East. But Jayraj does not allow commentators to point out suchƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ connivingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in his articles.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr.Jayraj may get pseudo scholars to write about Mahawansa mindset or anyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ set ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ minds to ridicule our history, but he should not act as a Pol Pot.toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ cover-up the truth. If Mr.Jayraj is anƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ eminentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ writer, he should have let us comment and highlight the errors specially when we quote his own words to prove he is wrong. It is not fair toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ bury our points of view Mr.DBS.Jayraj.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

  1. Sarath W Says:

The only way the selfish Tamils can get separation is by going to their home land Tamil Nadu in mother India for those who want to be with their brothers and sisters or those who looking for economic heavens to go to Canada, Australia or any other western countriy. As the tiger terrorist Praba dreamed, they will never ever get their Elam. It’s only a dream. As Preba did they can get their Elam only in hell.

  2. nilwala Says:

In fact, it was SJV Chelvanayakam’s own son-in-law Prof. A. J. Wilson who, in his biography of Chelvanayakam wrote of the latter’s philosophy of ” A little now, more later” with regard to the Tamil demands. Clearly, the strategy WAS AND STILL IS: Devolution to Federalism and on to Separate State.
For Jeyaraj to pretend that these stages of separatism are not in the path set out by the Jaffna Tamil political leaders is indeed to stray widely from the Truth. Thereby all Jeyaraj’s writings become suspect.

  3. thurai Says:

All Tamils from the North are not supporting Seperatism. Those who want Seperatism are not interested in the
life of Tamils or Sinhalese. I mean Tamil political parties or so called liberation fighters have roots from western countries. They need power to rule Tamils not develop the coutry or helping the poor people.

As I am from jaffna, I know how some Tamils respect other comunities. They insists on their Cast, Regional
and Religious fundament. Many of them never loved or will love their own community how can you expect from
Patriotism from them. They wanted Business all over Sri lanka, they needed Government Jobs all over Sri Lanka.
Same time they refused to learn Sinhala language. They wanted Seperatism.

Now they emigrated all over the world they learn all languages in the world. They are applying for permanent
residence and citizenship. Many are trying to leave by illigal boats to Canada and Australia. Why they cann`t go to Tamilnadu and ask asylum? Tamil politicains misguided Tamil community in Sri Lanka and formed LTTE
and destroyed life of innocent Tamils and Sinhalese. Now TGTE misguids Tamils abroad to destroy the world.

  4. samaraweera Says:

Jeyaraj’s articles are supporting the Tamil Diaspora who are focussing on a front against Sri Lanka for a separate state. They are also backed by Tamil Nadu politicians who are more worried about the Sri Lankan Tamils than their own people in Tamil Nadu. With regard to the Tamil Diaspora , the Tamils who ran away from Sri Lanka saying that they have been victimised , discriminated etc., now visit Sri Lanka as Tourists. They should be thankful to the Govt. for ending the war and terrrorism in Sri Lanka.

  5. jimmy Says:

    I agree with Thurai

I am also from Jaffna and I agree Tamils should be more patriotic for Lanka . We all can live like brothers and sisters
No more pain no more sorrow . I have met sinhalese who are the most kindest friendliest people also They are very patriotic

    Herold
Not sure why you say DBS is supporting Tigers or Tamil Diapora . DBS does not like Tigers . Most of his articles revealed that . Hope I am right

  6. Ariya Says:

DBS Jeyeraj lives in Toronto, but not in Sri Lanka, not in Colombo or in Jaffna, so whatever he writes is hearsay. Period! He just keeps on writing and has blog, where other people can comment, but these comments are not automatically published, but is moderated by DBS Jeyeraj. So, he can cunningly manipulate the whole blog showing some ethnic problem, which may be not available in Sri Lanka!

Let him write his blog, but why should we read it, and why should we comment in that?! The war is over and we don’t need any of these blogs, so we must not give any advertisement for such blogs, by mentioning about it even in Lankaweb!

When he wrote about the white flag story and how SF was arrested, etc, I knew he is just a hearsay writer, and stopped visiting his blog. Today, I don’t know what he writes and I don’t care!!!

  7. Leela Says:

jimmy: To be blunt, I say, DBSJ is playing a Jekyll and Hide game. As you say, I know he doesn’t like LTTE. Or, he has a rift with LTTE. Then again, many other prominent Tamils have rifts with LTTE as well. What is important is; that does not mean they are against separatism. Indeed, many of them prefer Eelam sans Piripaharan. I can give you a whole list of them. But that’s their right and I am not against them exercising their right. I only write against their views.

What I am against is; DBSJ hiding his true stand and promoting promote his hidden desire clandestinely. Why do I say that?

On May 14, 2000, DBSJ wrote to Sunday Leader, “The DMK that had 15 seats in 1957 won 50 in 1962 after they dropped separatism.” This is a totally incorrect presentation. For one, only in 1963, the DMK dropped its separation demand. For another, DMK won 50 seats in 1962 not because it dropped separatism but it fought that election on a separatist platform. That is the truth.

To illustrate this event more accurately, DMK Central Committee (Maththiya Seyarkuzu) met on November 3, 1963 at the DMK office in Royapuram and dropped its demand for independent Dravida Nadu.

Whether it is on India or Sri Lanka, what I have seen is; DBSJ’s aim has been to cover-up Tamils’ inclination for separation. Why? Because he is one of those guys that I described at the beginning, here. I had this suspension all alone but wasn’t sure. When DBSJ blocked my comments in his blog that highlighted his erroneous writing I realized his game. I thought it is better to pen it here for everyone to know my gut feelings.

Ariya: I think I ought to consider your advise seriously.

  8. Lorenzo Says:

Illankai Tamil Arse Kachchi (ITAK) was called Federal Party by Chelva. ITAK is still running for elections and winning. What is its English name today? Tamil National Alliance!!

    So in their definition,

    ITAK = FP
    ITAK = TNA

    Therefore, FP = TNA

In other words, federal = Tamil nation.

Little then, more later. How foolish are these jokers! But the biggest fool was the man who needlessly signed an agreement with them, giving worthless dirt some importance.

  9. Dhnushka Says:

I write on Jeyaraj’s blog a lot. I am a Sinhalese, Buddhist and I promote these views in my writings. After I send them, Jeyaraj will always change my comments to suit his whim and fancy. From the way he changes my comments so blatently I can say he has a pro Tamil separatist agenda. Jeyaraj tries to show he is a moderate Tamil, but, having closely followed his writings in the last 4-5 years I can boldly say he is an enemy of our nation, Sri Lanka. He wants to see Sri Lanka being politically attacked, he has a separatist agenda. Look at his blog, the first 5-6 comments are always made by the same people (same name). These comments are fabricated comments. This is how Jeyaraj would set the scene up for people to comment. People would usually continue with the trend as already set up by Jeyaraj. I have been told that if we complain him to the media authorities in Canada, he could face huge fines/sentences. Can someone (a patriot) in Canada please take up the task, as I am not in Canada. I am determined to bring justice many of the Sinhala writers who write in his blog. I know he does this to so many Sinhala writers (not Jehan Perera/Kumar Rupasinghe type) who try to show that Tamils have destroyed our country.

  10. jay-ran Says:

I take my hats off to THURAI & JIMMY for speaking thru their hearts expressing the correct situation as GREAT PATRIOTIC SRILANKANS.
As Sri Lankans we all Sinhalese, Tamils,Muslims & all other communities must live in peace and harmony realising that the life is short.

  11. Dhnushka Says:

We must expose the hidden behaviour of DBS Jeyaraj to the whole world. He destroyed the patriot, Thenuwera. I feel Jeyaraj has made comments for Harrold’s article in different names to promote himself

  12. jimmy Says:

    Thank you Jay Ran
There are many Thurais and Jimmys among tamils and many Jay Rans among sinhalese also
We have to work together as Srilankans to resolve any issues which affeect us all
I agree Life is too short . We should promote love , compassion and unity among us

    Peace

  13. thurai Says:

    Dear Jay Ran,

    Thanks for your comments.

Tamils and Sinhalese must show the world how to live in Peace. God gave us a wonderful Land. A Pearl in Indian Ocean. Who are behind the problems within communities. We all must work together to find out our common enemy. When we all concentrate to help the poor people in our country we can bring Peace immediately.
If we concentrate how to make more and more money we destroy ourself and the country.

  14. Leela Says:

sri8491: Like India, Sri Lanka is a one country and a democracy. But unlike India, Sri Lanka is a small country and cannot be divided or subdivided in to linguistic, racial or religious units.

There may be complaints and grievances by some people. But it is all relative to how one looks at the complaints and grievances and where one observes it from. Never mind how long it takes, we must strive hard to solve such problems peacefully within the ambit of one country. Thats what the slaves (blacks) did in the US. They didn’t resort to terrorism or demand segregation.

I am no bigot or raciest. Never once have I mentioned that Tamils must be sent to Tamil Nadu or thrown to the sea. I believe, anyone has the right to live next to my house. Let’s make no mistake; we Sinhalese believe all the people that live in Sri Lanka regardless they are citizens or not, have equal rights in the eyes of the law. Can Tamils say the same thing?

There should be no room for anyone to promote separatism in any manifestation.
    Herold

  15. jimmy Says:

    Sri8491,
Tamil nadu is the only state in India where 99.99% People do not speak or understand Hindi. People from Andhra , Karnataka and Kerala can speak ( atleast 40%)
Sadly the mentality for Tamils is not to go along with Majority

In my opinion we have to go forward not backwards
It is a waste of energy and time to talk about past past and past.
Srilankan Tamils differ from Indian Tamils ( plantation tamils). Not sure why sometimes people talk of Tamil Nadu when talking of Srilankan Tamils

These are the solutions for everlasting Peace in Lanka. we have new generation now
we can not change the old farts but we have to think of Future Generation

    (a) Lankan flag should be hoisted in every school all over the Country every Government buildings
People should be encouraged to hoist the Flag
National anthem should be sung in school assemblies

    (b) Sinhala langugae should be taught in Tamil school as a subject and Tamil language should be taught as a subject in Sinhala school

    (c) Tamil Kids should be taken to Sinhala villages and cities show them the Country same thing for Sinhala kids to go to North and east to know about the Country

( d ) motivate sinhala tamil muslim kids on Sports , recreations . When the mind is set to Sports there is no time to think Violence

(e ) BRING CAPITAL PUNISHMENT : Any one kill any one due to racism should get Capital punishment There is no excuse .

People learn French or Spanish in western World . why can not we learn each others language

  16. jimmy Says:

Leela I like what you said to Sri8491

    you also asked tamils

“I believe, anyone has the right to live next to my house. Let’s make no mistake; we Sinhalese believe all the people that live in Sri Lanka regardless they are citizens or not, have equal rights in the eyes of the law. Can Tamils say the same thing?

I am a tamil You have the right to live next door to my house in Jaffna . Please come
I highly recommend you to visit famous Keerimalai Beach and Cashorina Beach ( I used to go to these beaches when I was a kid )
If Tamils can live happily in Wellawatta, Bambalapiiya why not you live in Jaffna Pal
Please come and live with us .
I hear Sinhalese are in Jaffna Town now They are running businesses / hotels
    Happy to see that
People have the right to live anywhere they want without fear and intimidation

My point always is Government should never ever intervene

    Ayubuwan/Vanakam/peace
