The International Community Bombed Libya- What next ?
Posted on March 20th, 2011

The West involved in a seemingly unending war against terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan, sacrificing their youths sending them away from their homes in search of possible terrorists is about to start another war in Libya.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ President Sarkozy finding himself low down in a popularity poll wanted to score points of popularity demanding arbitrarily, without consulting the partners of the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- game of using force to obtain peaceƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, a cease fire in Libya on threat of a military attack. Or is it Colonel GaddafiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s threat that he will cut supply of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-oilƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ to the West that hastened President SarkozyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s demand to the International Community for a military intervention in Libya.?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Surprised by SarkozyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s war cry, the UN Security council met to agree or not to agree with the President SarkozyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s call to war. The security council did not give a unanimous vote to satisfy the war mongering West, with China, Germany, India and Russia abstaining in wise disagreement to a foolish method of seeking peace to aid the WestƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s secret agenda.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ President Barrack Obama who has promised his people the withdrawal of the American Army from Iraq, not wanting to deceive the people and court their anger has said that America will not deploy its troops in Libya, as it would be the responsibility of France, Britain and Arab League who moved the UN Resolution 1973 adopted by the Security Council to enforce it. But nevertheless agreed on air raids not to disappoint the West, despite political and economic problems at home.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The West still thinks it has the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-best solutionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ for world peace, despite the fact that it has not solved any problems in the world other than adding more to it. The worst about the West is that having taken a wrong decision it will not accept the error and retreat, but keeps on staggering on the selected path of action, until it finds a retreat almost impossible. We see it both in Afghanistan and in Iraq.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Apart from President Sarkozy, France also has its vociferous philosopher Bernard Levi, who seeks troubled spots to cry about the suffering into which the poor people have been put into, but instead of finding a solution to release those people from suffering he invites more suffering on them; even when the suffering from which he had sought to release them has been solved. He seems quite happy when one problem has been resolved, but having no solution for the next following the first, he seeks other troubled spots having no further solutions to the former.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This happened in Afghanistan under the Russian ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-occupationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. He spear headed many manifestations against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. There were discussion in front of television cameras, lectures to packed elegant intellectuals in warm clean halls. But when finally the Russians left and Afghanistan was taken over by a savage crowd of Taliban terrorists the mourning philosopher evaporated in to the oblivion. And now we see him crying over the plight of the Libyan people.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In Libya it is not a foreign invader from whom the people are seeking liberation, but from their own leader who had been their benefactor until recently. The Libyan people may not have had the freedom it may have sought, but they were better off than the people of Tunisia, Egypt , Algeria , Yemen and yet other places, who were much poorer than them. The Libyan people were caught in the wave of peoplesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ uprising in Tunisia and Egypt, and did like wise without having an economic situation similar to that of the Tunisians and the Egyptians.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Unfortunately for the people in Libya their leader Colonel Gaddafi is noƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ yes manƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ of the West. The West made of him a hard leader who kept his people under control not to be caught in the Western web of pacificators putting the people against a leader who would refuse to be their puppet. If he has turned out to be a Frankenstein it is because of the West.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It was the same with Iraq. Iraq had enough provision needed by the people who were economically better off until America with the UNO walked in to proclaim an embargo depriving the people of the much needed medical facilities when even the children died for want of medicine. That hardened Sadam Hussain and the situation deteriorated until the President Bush even without the approval of the UN Security Council bombed Iraq without foreseeing the consequences from which there still seem to be no way out.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Now they have bombed Libya.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The problem with the West is they think of immediate solutions without planning for the consequences. West is not popular in these countries. The President Sarkozy acted on the demand of the Libyans in France recognising a provisional Libyan Government in exile. He perhaps thinks he is wise as he has managed to bring the rest of the Nations of the West who precipitate to help the people of developing countries seeking liberation from their own leaders an easy game that could be baited to serve their own agenda, to keep leadersip of the World in the hands of the West.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These people of Libya the West defends now had been forgotten when Gaddaffi became ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-suddenlyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ respectable to be met on equal terms by the Leaders of the West. He addressed the world leaders in the UNO in September,2009.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In 2004 Tony Blair met him in Libya and said Colonel Gaddafi would be a strong alley in the international war on terror.

In July,2009 President Sarkozy visited Colonel Gaddafi in Libya and signed several bilateral and multilateral contracts.

In 2008 the American Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice met Colonel Gaddafi in Libya.

In the same year the Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi met Gaddafi in Benghazi to sign a Cooperation treaty.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

In July 2009 the President Barrack Obama shook hands with Colonel Gaddafi at the G8 Summit in lƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢Aquilla.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But in none of these meetings did these great leaders of the West had broached the subject of democratization of Libya and give more freedom to the Libyan people. These Western political Leaders were then more interested in the financial benefits that could be had from his contact rather than building a warm political relationship to change his political attitude towards development of Libya to improve the living conditions of the people.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In not doing so they lost the opportunity they had to change Gaddafi into a political leader acceptable by the International Community according to their norms.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Living conditions of the common people are no concern of these leaders of the West when they hobnob with the high and mighty of these petrol rich Arab States. But the problems of the ordinary people become their concern only when circumstances change and they intend to force political upheavals and change regimes, like in Iraq, Tunisia, , Egypt, and Libya, perhaps later on in Yemen, Syria etc.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ At the moment the West is working hand in hand with the Arab League, but who knows what it would be ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-tomorrowƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ with the members of the Arab League- Saudi Arabia, for instance.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But today Gaddafi has become a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-pariahƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. And the International War Council met in Elysee Palace with the French President Sarkozy in the Chair.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is reported that , ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚« U.S. ships in the Mediterranean were preparing to bombard LibyaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s air defenses and runways to clear the way for European and Arab forces to establish a no-fly zone throughout the country, according to U.S. and European officials. Fighter aircraft from France, Britain and the United Arab Emirates converged on bases in and around Italy to begin operations over Libya under the command and control of the United States at its naval base in Naples. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚»

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚« The U.S. military announced that Navy electronic warfare aircraft and Marine Corps attack jets joined the international assault early Sunday. Navy EA-18G Growlers launched from unspecified land bases to provide electronic warfare support over Libya. Marine AV-8B Harriers from the USS Kearsarge sailing in the Mediterranean conducted strikes against Gadhafi’s ground forces and air defenses.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ American officials are eager to confirm that damage from the multi-stage air campaign has been extensive enough to allow air patrols to protect civilians being targeted by Gadhafi. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚»

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The International Community- arrests,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  prosecutes and punishes. Who dare question the International Community ?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The West has now declared war in Libya, but have they a solution for Libya after Gaddafi ? Will it be satisfied with an uninterrupted supply of oil to the West ? Have it already a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-puppetƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ of West to succeed Gaddafi ? Does the West care what ever happens to Libya thereafter ?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ What lessons could we in Sri Lanka draw from this situation unfolding in Libya ?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Has the International Community gone too war with Libya, for the sake of the people of Benghasi or is the International Community making these complaining people of Benghasi e a reason to finish off with Gaddafi who said he would isolate the West ?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Colonel Moammar Gaddafi may be a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-specialƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ person with a hard physical appearance , but he would not kill his people for the pleasure of killing them. In the West they are making him out to be a barbar ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…”a barbaric Savage .

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It was only in Bengazi that there were a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-people ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- who came out against Gaddafi (spontaneously or sponsored by interested parties). There were also manifestation of people in many parts of Libya in favour of Colonel Gaddafi. He was disliked by the International Community but not so much by his people. Libya is bombed to oust Gaddafi, because he is an Arab political leader who would not bow to the West.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This would have been the scenario in Sri Lanka towards the last phase of the military operations by the Sri Lanka Government Armed Forces, if we had a weak President and we had no Defence Secretary who could have stood up against Kouchner, Milliband, Hillary Clinton, and Robert OƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢Blake.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The people of Benghasi will be the sufferors and there may already be civilian deaths the West will refuse to accept.

Charles, you said. “This would have been the scenario in Sri Lanka towards the last phase of the military operations….” -but don’t underestimate the volatility of the situation, and this could still become the scenario in Sri Lanka UNLESS the Govt. continues to play the cards right and UNLESS people do not drop their guard against neo-colonialism. The ‘monthly statements of political wisdom’ made by people like Robert O’Blake about how Sri Lanka should behave, should give a good indication to the Govt and friends of Sri Lanka that Sri Lanka is not out of CIA radar (and it will not be out of CIA radar for many more years to come).

Can we take the word of US/EU/UK alliance? Do they really want to protect the civilians or do they want a regime change with a puppet Government in Libya? Yes, France let the cat out of the bag by recognising the un-elected anti-Gadafi rebels as the legitimate Govt of Libya.

In Bahrain and Yemen, similar uprisings against west friendly dictatorial regimes, are being crushed by the US/EU/UK alliance by sending in their stooge Saudi Arabian forces. But in Libya its just the reverse. We all know Gaddafi is an eccentric but not a puppet like the Bahrain & Yemen leaders now being protected by the West.

The UN security council and the Arab league have been taken for a ride by the West by passing a no fly zone resolution. The very first to violate this resolution were the US/EU/UK alliance lead by France, when they sent in planes and cruise missiles. The bogus excuse is that Libya violated the agreement. We have heard such bogus excuses before, when they gave similar fabricated reasons to invade and destroy Iraq, Serbia (previously Yougoslovakia one of the leaders of non-alligned nations), Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos (3 buddhist nations). So can we trust the West to honour their word? If we cant then we are living in a most dangerous world where there is no law or other mechanism to control the human rights violations committed by the militarily powerful US/UK/EU alliance.

U.S, British and French invasion against Libya is very well supported by Norway 6, F-16 fighter jets, Canada 6, CF-18 fighter jets, Denmark 6, F-16 Fighter jets, Spain 4, F-18 fighter jets, 1 Frigate, 1 Submarine, Two bases at NATO’s disposal, Italy 7 Bases offered, 4, Tornado bombers and 6 fighter planes.
The biggest joke is peacekeepers of the world; Eric Solheim’s Norway and EU is in front of the international thugs operation to kill innocent civilians in Libya. Wherever petroleum is available then all these countries create many problems and interfering to internal matters, is the common agenda of this NATO gang.
All these countries are Christian fundamentalists and are anti Muslim in world arena. The other factors is same international killer’s gang now operates in Iraq, Afghanistan and they operated in Serbia and they are the same clique who tried to save megalomaniac tamil racist terrorist Velupillai Prabakaran and gang during 2009.
The world had gone back to 15th century European slave trade era and U.N.O is working for the interest of NATO plans and U.N.O is none second to modern day East Indian Trade Company to NATO thugs.

UN Security council consist of 15 nations. Ten voted in favor for bombing Libya. These nations are UK, USA, France, Portugal, Bosnia/Herzegovina, South Africa, Lebonon, Nigeria, Gabon and Columbia. The total population for these ten countries amounts of 697 million. (2009 figures). the five nations which abstained were Russia, China, India, Brazil and Germany. The population in these countries amounts to 2,904 mllion as per 2009 figures.

I wonder what is this UN security council? Is it democratic? How come UN Security Council did bugger all in Vietnam war, Apartheid in South Africa, Rhodesia and South West Africa, nothing during the butchery in Palestine, nothing for people of Iraq. Today it exist only as a tool for United States to steal from other nations. The UN and UN Security Council was created for the “World of 1945.” That was 66 years ago. Over hundred new independent nations have emerged since. UN has now become a obsolete machinery. This Dodo must die. World needs a new world order where the nations like India, Iran, Brazil, Japan, Germany, Indonesia, Egypt and Australia is given veto power as well.

Xinhua News reported as Libya’s health officials said on Sunday that sixty-four people have been killed and 150 others wounded in the air strikes launched by western forces since Saturday. Though it had not mentioned about any monetary damage we can just visualize it from the images that are filled with mushroomed clouds. What a way to save ordinary Libyans from their ‘tyrannical’ leader. But we are not amused that HRW and et al are in deep somber.

If that is the results of the first wave of attack, imagine what is in the store.

    What next?

Oil prices will go up in all European and US, Canada…The chance of getting blown up by an Arab IED and/or suicide bombing had become a reality again in the West. This problem is going to be a problem for the Sri Lankan expatriates, who live in these Western countries, for the IEDs or human bombs won’t choose, who to kill. This attack in now considered as an attack on the Muslims, rather than Arabs, and Muslims are all over the world! OBama’s strategy to push USA to war to get himself elected again might fail. Remember, all war-presidents of USA got re-elected! Obama boiled this egg! Some Sri Lankan expatriate might lose his life, then what?

  7. Fran Diaz Says:

It is interesting to note that President Obama deliberately went on tour to South America even though there is a war against Libya. His first touch down was in Brazil, where their President Dilma Rousseu abstained from voting against war with Libya ! It has also been noted by media that the Republican party in the House of Representatives with Rep. Speaker John Boehner discussed two other local topics prior to the European efforts to go to war with Libya, which delaying action forced President Obama to make the decision to include America in the war, without the usual House Debate. Even CNN has made note of the fact that the President went on his S. American tour, which according to CNN analysts says loud and clear that America is NOT heading this war on Libya.
Democratic Representative Kuchnic called for ‘impeachment’ of the President as due process was not followed with the Debate. Kuchinic said : “Now, it doesn’t necessarily follow that simply because a president has committed an impeachable offense, that the process should start to impeach and remove him,” he said. “That’s a whole separate question. But we have to clearly understand what this Constitution is about.” President George W. Bush & Dick Cheney were not prosecuted for the same ‘crime’.

President Obama is a Constitutional Professor. His actions in this case speaks volumes. To our thinking, he acted as he had to under pressure, but showed that America is NOT heading these attacks.

It brings to mind that America was forced to enter WW I, when the British ship “Lucitania” (built in Liverpool), filled with American wealthy folk, sailed from New York to England, only to to be fired upon by Germans off the coast of Ireland. The ship sank in 18 minutes when a huge unaccounted for explosion happened on board, an explosion far larger than any guns could have caused. It is suspected that there were a large cache of explosives on board, unbeknown to the passengers. So, was it a set up ? Anyway, right afterwards, America was FORCED to join UK & Europe against Germany. Thus was history made, and next on to WW II as well. And that is how America became a arms producer.

Some day in the future we will also tell a little story on OIL too. Nothing is as simple as it seems …. what seems obvious, is not !

  8. Kit Athul Says:

Gaddafi is and will be a friend of Sri Lanka. When President Rajapakse wanted his financial help he gave generously. Its time MR call for the bombing to stop. India asked the boming to stop.Turkey stopped all NATO activity. Lets hope he is safe and comes back as their leader again. Charles has done an excellent job of exposing all the bombers.

  9. Fran Diaz Says:

Today’s news carries the big question: what are the rebels of Libya really fighting for ? Is it really for Democracy or is it just their old Tribal Wars re-surfing ? Only time will tell, say the analysts.
Till Col.Gadafi unified that area of land by force, there was no country called Libya as such …

  10. AsokaK Says:

We should be ever grateful to Russia & China for opposing a UN Resolution against the war against LTTE in 2008.
Had that passed SL would have been bombed by the white western mafia.

Gaddaffi has given free health care , education etc to his people and provided aid to poor African countries.

The black Africans, South Africa, Nigeria & Gabon, who voted for the UN Resolution 1973 would have been bribed to do so.

The Lockerbie bombing etc was his undoing ; then what about the CIA crimes against Cuba, even introducing pig flu.

The man who bombed the Cuban Airliner in 1976, Lois Posada Carriles , is a free man in USA ; Uncle Sam refuses to extradite him to Venezuela.

No action taken to enforce UN Res. 242 whereby Israel has to return to 1967 borders.
