Kokavil Tower

Peace and tranquillity dawned on the country because of the supreme sacrifice of the fallen heroes. The country just finished a period of celebration and joy staging the cricket world cup without the fear of bombs and destruction. The cerebratory image thus created in the country was there to be seen worldwide . However there are families and friends in deep sadness and pain whose dear and near have sacrificed their lives for us to enjoy this fun and peace. There are many stories of valour and heroism by our forces saving the country from the terrorist clutch that has led us, irrelevant whether Sinhalese, Tamil or Muslim to this hallowed freedom. One such heroic example came from Captain Aladeniya who sacrificed his dear life in defence of Kokavil tower in 1990.The newly rebuilt huge tower is to be inaugurated soon in May and is there any more tribute to him and the forces than naming the new tower as Aladeniya Communication Tower Kokavil.

We see places and roads being named after the politicians constantly and IƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢m sure the whole Sri Lanka will call upon the Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapakse to start a process in naming the places and buildings in the North and East that led to significant war victories after these fallen unsung heroes.

Very laudable idea. Reminiscences by Name, of the Brave, Fallen, Unsung Heroes, who were called to Higher Service, defending Sri Lanka, and even those among the living, who were facing bullets in the Battle Front, should be kept alive like the Eternal Flame.

Not to forget the Civilians, who sacrificed their lives too, within split seconds, for nothing, and also those who were maimed by bombs, for no reason at all.

It is my point of view that there should be an Encyclopedia reflecting the names as the Eternal Flame of Sacrifice. Should be in two categories, one for the Forces, and one for the civilians. It would be tantamount to a detailed Census. Hope the Ministry of Defence will take the lead to initiate the aforesaid suggestions.
