Silence of Sri Lanka
First of all, as an expatriate Sri Lankan now living in London, I should like to express my appreciation of the intense interest you have shown in the internal affairs of my country of origin in the last few years. Indeed, your recent article co-signed with Mr Bernard Kuchner published in the New York Times on 20 June 2011 amply demonstrates that Sri Lanka continues to engage your attention.
Moreover, Tim Waite, FCO Team Leader, quoted in Wikileaks, claims that you, in your capacity as Foreign Secretary, devoted 60% of your time to Sri Lanka. It is indeed very kind of you to have spent so much time on just one country when there are at least 190 others competing for your attention. It is also said that ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-With UK elections on the horizon and many Tamils living in Labour constituencies with slim majorities, the government is paying particular attention to Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ (Guardian, 1 Dec 2010). I have no knowledge of any public denial by you of the above and I would, therefore, assume them to be true.
In your statement to the House of Commons, you set out slightly different reasons for the UK GovernmentƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s concern over Sri Lanka. You highlighted the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-need to bring the conflict to an end in a way that minimises further civilian casualties; to press the case for the humanitarian relief effort to be ratcheted up, as the UN and EU have been calling for; and to make clear the need for a long-term political settlement that meets the aspirations of all communities in Sri Lanka.” They are not mutually incompatible, are they? Indeed, you succeeded in ensuring the provision of urgently needed humanitarian assistance while using public funds to secure a definite electoral advantage for your party in marginal constituencies. I suppose this is a cardinal principle in good governance!
You quote Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General and emphasize that the international community cannot be selective in its approach to upholding the rule of law. It is indeed vital that the law applies to everyone. And your Government set an undeniably good example in allowing a terrorist outfit banned in 32 countries including the UK to hold demonstrations in the streets of London for 73 days. In addition, your Government followed it up with another valuable example, certainly worthy of emulation, by banning a protest by an Islamic group under the Terrorism Act in 2010, not to mention that police violence against G8 protesters led to one death in May 2010.
You refer to war crimes and crimes against humanity in your letter to the NYT. Indeed, we cannot but admire your noble, selfless, tireless endeavours to bring to justice those responsible for the despicably horrendous slaughter of innocent civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and now in Libya. As for crimes against humanity, you are mindful of the Non-Applicability of Statutory Limitations to Crimes against Humanity (Please, see Article I, Preamble, 1968 UN Convention). I have no doubt that you will soon launch a worldwide campaign to bring to justice those responsible for the heinous crimes against humanity committed in former colonies including Sri Lanka and indeed those responsible for transporting 7-10 million Africans across oceans as slaves under abominable conditions. International law, as you rightly point out, should apply to all nations with equal rigour.
Finally, I do not remember receiving any replies to my numerous letters sent to your Constituency address. Never mind. I am sure that you were busy with Sri Lanka, anyway. However, I do not mind receiving, though belatedly, your comments on the following article published on Lankaweb in May 2009.

Dear Dr.Kothalawala, Many tks. for articale and Mr.Miliband is always busy with SL, pls. do not foget he is on their pay roll as well, this country has enough problems these idiots think SL has a problem no we do not have a problem so they try to arrange a problem. GOD BLESS SL.

Obviously these two idiots Milliband (MR Bean) and Kuchner did not learn their lesson when they were told by Hon Gotabaya Rajapaksa to but off. What right these two have to talk about human rights when they blatantly violate them in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libiya. The Brits have not yet realize that Sri Lanka is not their colony any more. The British brought the Tamils to Sri Lanka to do their dirty work and not they do the dirty work for the Tamil tigers.

MILIBAND AND HIS OCHESTRA, have fallen hook, line, and sinker, for LTTE Financial Handouts. It appears that the more he shows loathesome attitude towards Sri Lanka, the more he is fed by the LTTE Treasury. This is the reason why this Bugger is spending 60% of his time spitting on Sri Lanka. The more he spits, the more the merrier. His depravity and moral turpitude sees no bounds. Disgusting ‘ our soul ‘.

Anoma1 most of the British Political Class except for a rare one or two exceptions are prejudiced,bigoted, deceitful and now Evil bloodthirsty warmongers and murderers of innocent people in Libya, as they want to get their greedy imperialist bloody paws on Libya’s oil. However this is not a surprise as the British Political class have always been Evil Imperialists. Time for people to call these criminals out and demonstrate against them and stop their criminality. As someone famous once said. “Only thing that takes Evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.” In short the British Political class are warcriminals should on trial at the hague and hung if found guilty and they are certainly guilty now after the criminal attack on Libya.
