Chandrika Kumaratunga’s Bleeding Heart and its strange insensitivity to the anguish of the autochthons of Lanka.

In a recent lecture to the Westernized bourgeoisie of Colombo, the former President of our troubled country shed many a tear in reflecting on the sorrowful plight of the minorities dwelling therein. It was the hubris of the majority race and its unscrupulous exploitation by politicians – who placed political success before fairplay and moral rectitude – that led to the vast tragedies of recent memory. This was the pith and substance of her oration. That Sri Lanka passed through a period (now happily over) of violence, misery and political gerrymandering on a shameful scale cannot be doubted. What is wholly unacceptable ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” indeed preposterous – is KumaratungƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s stance that it was the historic injustice done to the Tamils by scheming Sinhala zealots that was at the root of it all.

Some basi facts must be stated first ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” facts that the former President Kumaratunga is, doubtless. aware of but chooses to ignore. The first is that prior to the departure of the British Overlord, the Tamils were the Top Dogs among the natives ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” they commanded a position in society that far exceeded their due in terms of the demographic strength they actually had. Indeed, the majority- the Sinhala people – were the oppressed race and the developments after independence are best seen as readjustments that were necessary to ensure social justice. What, then. caused the mayhem? It was the claim of the Tamils that they cannot and would not play second fiddle as a constituent nation given their historic ascendency over the native majority. The violence began when Tamil hotheads started an orgy of killing in the name of a bogus claim of freedom from the thrall of fancied oppressors. The bloodthirsty Eelam Adventure was launched and a monster found to head this hugely destructive movement ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Prabhakaran. Things would not have been so horrendously bad if our great neighbor to the North had not found the racial commotion in Sri Lanka a wonderful opportunity to destabilize a weak neighbor. Nor would affairs have got so out of hand if the Sinhala Leaders of Sri Lanka of the time ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the likes of Chandrika Kumaratunga and J R Jayawardena ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” were not morbidly conscious of the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”sufferings of the TamilsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ while being unable or unwilling to see the true picture of a bloody attempt by armed insurrectionists to dismember the state of Sri Lanka. Sadly, the upper-class bourgeoisie of Colombo thwarted all attempts to defeat the insurrection by blaming it all on the follies of the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”nationalistƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ or ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”racistƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ Sinhala leaders.

The retired PresidentƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s heart bleeds when fake pictures of supposed battlefield atrocities are shown on a British TV service called ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Channel 4ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. Can she not recall the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”bombingƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ of the Dalada Maligawa, theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  massacre of pilgrims at the site of the sacred Bo-Tree in Anuradhapura, the killing in cold blood of thousands of captives and innocents?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Her son and daughter (presumably part of the alienated Diaspora) are appalled and are ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”ashamed to be labeled ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”SinhalaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. What truly shames us is that people of such high standing moan over the plight of the Tamils while ignoring the monumental injustice and the brutal violence of a Tamil Terrorist movement that nearly destroyed a peaceful and inoffensive Sinhala Nation that had over twenty centuries of proud history behind it.

The former President Kumaratunga should think what her farther SWRD did with langauge issue and her own 2 terms as president in SL before speaking about others.

  2. Nihal Fernando Says:

Now that bandit queen’s daughter is married to a Tamil the queen has the bleeding heart for them. Her father late SWRD started all those problems.

She is an actress same like Jayalalitha next door twilight woman. She too dance according to the tunes of their white masters. Chandrika is just a garbage.not worth a dime to talk about her.She is disgraced to that famous family even so dont waste writing or talking about her.Our Motherland doesnt needs traitors like her. She can stay in England with her Tamil and English supporters rather than coming here and open her Hakara mouth wasting her time and our time.

  4. Lorenzo Says:

    Nihal,

She is not married to a Tamil but to a whiteman – a surgeon.

Anyway CBK is a cunning fox.

  5. AnuD Says:

It looks CBK has not even taught about her tragedy to her; he does not know not only anything about Sri Lanka or Sinhala people but also about the last 30 years of Sri Lanka.

According to CBK her son is ashamed to be a Sinhala.

He is concerned about the LTTE made Bollywood movie.

The above gives me a better understanding when it’s often said “ Majority with a minority complex”

  7. Trueman Says:

CBK seems to be born again as she has lost her memory, acting like the goddess of virgin and never seen blood in her hand. What really pity was that in the history of Sri Lankan political tale we had such a dull and an egocentric president like her. If her son is ashamed to be called a SriLankan we were all embarrassed to have a traitor-president like his mother because that this story could well go down our history and we’re no surprised her son had to come up with such an imprudent comments as his whole family never had the real Sri Lankan blood in them anyway.
